Which crossover?

I'm probably going to be buying a set of Rainbow CS210 Pros tomorrow (4''), and I would like to use them with something like some ID Chameleon dedicated mids to make it a 3-way set up. If I do it that way, would I have to run them active? I'd rather run them passive, just for simplicity, if I can. Or, if I went ahead and picked up a Pioneer 860mp, could I use the ''pro mode'' crossover to run them, since I am also in the market for a HU?

If not, what would I need to look for? Will these speakers even work together?

i'll answer you just because of our discussion in the other thread //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

it would work together of course, anything can work together. just depends on how bad you want it to.

that (the set up you described without subs...) would work fine on that deck's xover shyt, but yes you'd have to run it active.

but if you had that 3-way set up + subs ... i dont know how that works... i don't understand that really, how you can have a 3-way set up + a sub in the back, thus i guess making it a 4 way. maybe it has something to do with bandpassing something or other, i've heard that thrown around... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/waycrazy.gif.f4a380c3f94043939fd369defd9e6be2.gif

not that i have any idea what i'm talking about //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

lol thanks, but yeah, I do plan on running subs //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

It should be really easy using a deck such as the 860MP. You would run the 4" + tweet comp set off of the "highpass" outputs on the deck (assuming it lets you cross over low enough). Then, you run the midbass off of the "bandpass" output on the deck, and the sub obviously from the "lowpass" output on the deck.

So, you'd need 4-channels for the fronts (one channel for each 4" + tweeter pair [since you'll be using the passive xover with those also], and then one channel per midbass) and a sub amp.

But, verify that the highpass output on the 860MP allows you to highpass low enough to make it work. IIRC, the Alpine's only allow a crossover point of 1000hz or higher, but my Eclipse 8053 will allow all the way down to 200hz. So, just something to look for. If it does allow you to highpass the 4's low enough, then you are good to go.

Thanks squeak. Once again, always there to help out a lowly n00b //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Well, since I have this exact same set of comps, I've got to ask..

After going over the manual, it doesn't mention anywhere what Rainbow recommends as a crossover point for these speakers.. Is there an optimal crossover point for them? I mean, is there a point that is too low for a set of 4" mids? Would 100 hz be too low? How about 150? I was thinking of crossing them at around 200-240, would that be too high? (If I had an electronic crossover to play this would be easy, well, perhaps it would be a little bit easier..) //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/redface.gif.62fdbfe1a101588a808c4cff71bcb942.gif

Anyone know? (By anyone, I really mean Squeak.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif )
