I believe it was birch I read about that is better than MDF? If not, what would you recommend? I'm going to take some time on it and I wanted to use the best materials. Also, if I go with 3 cubes exact how long would the port be? Tuned to 23-25hz?

For a subwoofer box I've found that dampened MDF is better than birch. (By dampened I mean foam fill or something of the like.) I've found birch to be better for high frequency boxes. I don't really have any scientific proof for this, but just my opinion.
