What's the OLDEST stuff in your system?

Mine would have to be my 4ch amp....it's either a '98 or '99 vintage.

I have one of the original Punch 150s put away. (remote turn-on that connects with a 1/4" female spade connector FTW! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif)

I have one of the Proton 222s like the OP was talking about and from the looks of things I may very well be selling mine to him so he'll have two and I'll have none.

I just purchased an Orion 222 SX (can't get away from the 22w X 2 @ 4 Ohms, can I?) that will just be a keeper put away on a shelf unless I find a good use for it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I'm currently running a Soundstream D200II circa 1991ish for my front stage. Also have the matching D100II and D60II in my closet. They all work flawlessly.

Got an original soundstream reference SS10 Sub from a 1993ish install hanging around too. It still works fine as well.

Oh, forgot about the Kenwood KRC-930 Dead Head HU from around 1992, it too still works fine. Got the matching 10 disk changer too //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Edit: Just remembered the 2nd gen Punch 150 circa 1990 or so. Snagged it out of a car I was transporting for an auto wholesaler, in exchange for my services. The same car had an old school Nakamichi 4 x 35 watt amp... Got that one too //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

so small and yet im guestimating 600w out of it
Man, I remember the show displays those US Amps guys used to run. Did stuff like burning lead pencils in half with the amp output. Full power on a 1KHz square wave, with the amp leads onto the ends of a pencil (sharpened on both ends). Made a pretty impressive carbon composition resistor, until it burned the h*** up under the current! FIREFIREFIRE!!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

That one was almost as good, as the old Cerwin Vega stunt they used to pull at CES... put an 18" pro woofer face-down on the floor, and plug it into a wall socket. It's just sit there and "hover" around, like a great big air hockey puck. I think, IIRC, that they eventually mounted a fiberglass seat onto the back of the magnet, and let kids "ride around" on the air cushion! This was back in 1980 or so, IIRC... back in the days of Rich Coe's 1KW VW and the like...

Gordon.

Being officially an "old fart" now, I guess (I started installing car audio back in 1984, and did it as a job until 1994, when I went into computers and later into home speaker design)... I was just contemplating how much stuff I still have, that STILL WORKS right. In fact, I'm about to put in a system into my daily driver (94 Protege), that's gonna have stuff like:
Proton 222 amp (from 1986) (and hopefully a SECOND Proton 222 amp, if I can find one)

EPI 8" woofers, from 1978 (!) (mounted into custom door pods)

Either an Alphasonik EX3 crossover (I bought it NEW back in 1984!) or an ADS 642i crossover (from about 1987).

HiFonics Cleo parametric EQ (1989).

All this stuff WORKS GREAT. The only casualty I've had was my old beloved Alpine 7905 CD player (which I bought on employee comp back in 1990)... CD mech finally bit the big one.

Got a new Alpine, to replace it. Nice thing, is that the new one has about 4 times the pre-out voltage (2v instead of .5v). Should make that old stuff sound even better (less noise)!!

So... anyone got any OLDER stuff than this in daily use? If anyone trumps me too bad, I'll have to dig out my old Fosgate 220 and 250 amps (1977), or my Zapco 151A (1977)...

Regards,

Gordon.
Being I am the same age as you I consider myself far from an old fart.so speak for yourself u crusty old bastid:D

Gee Thanks.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif lol I'm only as old as I feel. O'crap! I'm old.

Oh, You were talking about the other old fart. Whew.

My Punch 100 DSM //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I love that amp. I think it's from ~89 but i could be wrong

I'm lucky, my Carver has the date of final inspection written inside //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Happy B-day Super. I'd buy you a beer and a cigar, but at your age it might make you crap your pants or somthing. Jp.:p

Anywhose, my older buddy used to have a couple of those old white Phoenix Gold 25w per channel cheater amps from the mid-late 80's. Those things rocked. What inspired me to start messing around with car audio. He also had an old grey 4ch Sony cheater that was nice. He put a re-round alt in his old Chevette, and never lost the squeal...:p
