Seller is responsible to fully disclose the product being purchased. As a buyer, you get something you think is in good working order, you connect + to + - to - and think nothing of it. I can say I would have checked polarity if the sub wasnt performing, but I prolly would have simply verified my connections, MAYBE get a DMM out but I donno.

Offering to pay return shipping is a very fair offer at this point as you dont even have to go that far unless proff shows up he told you of the issue.

I recently bought a sub off of a member on here that is a dual 1. The sub was wired up correctly to have a 2 ohm load. When I first started playing the sub it barely moved, but i thought it was just because i was underpowering it. After less than a minute of play time on low volume, i feel the sub and it is very hot and smells. I didnt know what the problem was so i contacted the seller and asked what was wrong and he asked me if i switched the wires, because he sent me the sub with some wires hanging on it. I said i did because i was wiring it in series and the way he had it wasnt. Then he told me that when the sub was reconed the terminals were switched up on one side and he thought he told me, but he didnt. After he told me that, i wired it up with the switched up terminals and found out that the sub had blown. I am just wondering what is fair. I asked for a refund and i would pay return shipping, but he thinks that is not fair.
edit: I forgot to add that he said that the same thing happened to him, but once he wired it up the right way the sub was fine.

So, you are saying you wired the sub CORRECTLY to your desired 2 ohm load, but then all of a sudden it WASNT correctly wired?

Although not knowing that the terminals were switched is effed up, it is OBVIOUS when a sub is wired wrong/out of phase. VERY obvious. Obvious enough to where you should have known something was wrong before deciding to play it and mess it up.

he's saying that by looking at it, and assuming it is how it should be, it was wired right. how would you know it was wrong w/o using a meter?

Why should it be so obvious? Is there a certain level of skill required to purchase a subwoofer? It isn't or shouldn't be obvious. The seller has a certain duty of care to ensure that the product is as advertised and he shouldn't have to be a MECP certified installer to recognize and allieviate issues caused by the negligence of the seller.

The problem with everybody jumping on the seller, is how do we know the buyer didnt just hook it up wrong and is trying to cover his fukkup? It is a 2 way street here, and that why I would say at most 50/50 on the recone.

Well if the buyer has proof that the seller knew the terminals were reversed...
