Whats Fair?

The problem with everybody jumping on the seller, is how do we know the buyer didnt just hook it up wrong and is trying to cover his fukkup? It is a 2 way street here, and that why I would say at most 50/50 on the recone.
because the seller has not came in here and posted proof that he told him that the terminals were mixed up.

It's not a two way street if the seller admits there was some funky wiring BS that needs to be done and he didn't tell the buyer beforehand. Hell, I'd be pissed even if the seller told me after I already bought it.

Why should it be so obvious? Is there a certain level of skill required to purchase a subwoofer? It isn't or shouldn't be obvious. The seller has a certain duty of care to ensure that the product is as advertised and he shouldn't have to be a MECP certified installer to recognize and allieviate issues caused by the negligence of the seller.
chill out there nuthugger, i wasnt taking a side, rather simply stating that he should have checked his shit properly.

The seller would be admirable if he did refund the purchase due to his negligence, but at the same time i have some understanding for someone who is too lazy/ignorant/whatever to check and make sure he is doing his wiring correctly.

Because he is accusing the unknown seller of shenanigans, thats why

He DID do his wiring correctly, the fault was in the subwoofer itself, not the way the OP wired it up.
