Whats exactly wrong with Kicker & JL?

all of tc sounds subs lose to the w6 in sq

i was wondering about that as well, i have no experience with the tc stuff though so I couldnt comment. I just see the w6 as being pretty hard to beat in SQ

Kicker gets a lot of crap too because a lot of people who run it use horrible prefab boxes. Not only does that make their rep worse but people over power them too much and they end up blowing in 3 months.

side note: I'm posting a trade for my dc xl for a w7 later tonight for anyone with one that reads it now maybe for some sort of w6 offer also

this is normally said when somebodys goal outways their choice in gear

i could understand that, but sometimes it'll be as simple as "how can I make my sub hit lower?" Now if this had been a SA 12 or something, the response would be, "build a better box yada-yada". But if its a JL sub, or Kicker sub, "sell it, it *****. thats why youre not getting low" that doesnt help anyone.

You have to say there are some pretty dam n good subs under $200 that will poop on anything Kicker or JL have in that range.

In addition to everything everyone's already said, alot of people on here could be called Car Audio Hipsters. They don't like those brands because they are popular. That's why I see alot of people not choosing Sundown Audio; they literally said they didnt want to run SD because 'everybody' has sundown. This doesn't make sense, because one could argue that Sundown makes some of the best SQL drivers on the market for around 200 dollars.

It's just some people prefer their equipment to be more "exclusive"

i agree Kicker can be great for starter. even some vets use it. I just always wonder why, when a person comes on the forum and even mention Kicker its nothing but a bunch of "Kicker is garbage" type mentalities. then, you have the people you simply come on here and read that go telling everyone else how Kicker ***** yet they dont even know why people diss it.
I, too, am a JL fan, but would never pay full price for any of it (but i dont pay full price for anything //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif ) but i also would never turn anyway away from JL if its what they chose. I too would love to own a w7.

I've been thinking about doing that actually. has to wait till after Christmas if you still have them though.

no denying that. Dayton HO for SQ,

DC lvl 3s, Sundown SAs for SPL

but the w3s are about 150 online and I liked the way they sounded. Some of it comes down to personal preference. For example, for the prices, I'd honestly spend a little more on a 12 or 13w3 before I'd get a SSA Dcon.

thats a very good point acutally! the idiots are the ones with the Kicker stuff thus making it look bad.

you see stuff almost as bad with people using generic designs with high equipment. It's not as obvious as a prefab but still limits potential.

exactly because the more educated users are the ones who run the Sundown and DC stuff. So if ya put a Sundown SA12 in the hands of your local idiot, and a Kicker CVX in the hands of an experienced, more educated installer, the Kicker could very well come out on top. All in the install.

This is 99.9% of the whole deal with install/brand "a" vs install/brand "b".

Its simple really. Kicker your paying for the name. Sure their amps do rated power, but for a 2500wrms amp you pay $670 online price. An Audioque 2200 goes for $429.00. Dang near the same wattage rms for $240 less.
JL audio same thing. You pay for the name. There are plenty of subs out there that crush the W6 and W7 in SQ and output for a fraction of the cost. Anything TC based for example unless you get way up into the custom LMS 18's and stuff. Their amps are the same way. 1000wrms (Slash 1000/1) for $600? Dont think so. You can get an equal or better amp for half that price.

Point being you can get equal or better gear for less. The only thing you pay for is the badge.

I disagree, Kicker's power is rated @ 2 ohms,aq's @ 1,which make kicker way more efficient and way less of a strain on your electrical. Plus Kicker and jl is probably "top of the line " that most folks can buy who dont have credit cards or paypal.
