What year did car audio change when 600-800 watts was considered high power and would run 3-4 woofers with no problems? Now people are running 3-4 woofers with 2-3000 watts and the systems are no lower than they would be back in the day when 600-800 watts would easily get you to 150+ decibels. Was this around the same time when companies moved their buildhouses outside of the United States. I just heard a 3000 watt system with top of the line equipment and the install looked proper but I wasn't that impressed. Whereas many of the systems I heard in the 90's were much more powerful than this system with 3000 watts. The systems that I heard in the 90's averaged about 300-600 total watts and you could hear them coming about 3-4 blocks away. What year did this all change?

systems are a lot louder these days...name one back in the day doing 150+ daily tuned low on four 8's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif Mark Fukuda could barely do a 150 in a yellow walled S10 Blazer with 8 15's.....

Well you do have to remember that back in the day the meters were not as accurate as todays. (ie, AC 180 mic) I have been to shows that use the 180 mic and do any where form 10-15 db's higher than on a 190 mic or a TL.

600-800 watts 150db? really?

I had 4-Kicker comp 15's in a wall with a Autotek hc250mxi amp, about 1000 watts rms and would hit 149-151db. Usually hung right at 150 but also had HO alternator, 2 Optima battries, Orion MBR70 and four 1 farad caps. 600-800 watts might be kinda hard but did it with what I had in my truck. They just didn't have a huge selection in 96 like they do now. Don't remember any 2k, 3k 4k watt amps back then either but just me.

My buddy had 2 Kicker 15 inch CVR's in his Expedition in a sealed box bridged to a RF Punch 250.1 Power amp with Focal separates in the rear and front off of a 4 channel Alpine amp. We couldn't sit in the truck because it hit too hard and his highs were loud and super crisp. He used a Alpine GG 180 equalizer and his bass was typically at -5 on the Alpine head unit. This was in 2001. The RF amp was from 1998. I have heard about 40-50 systems in my time so far and his ranks in the top 5. I also remember back in 1993 I heard 2 Kicker 10's in a ported enclosure when they were using plastic pipes back then off of an ADS amp and he had about 300 watts and the bass and clarity of his system was ridiculous. Nowadays to hear the same type of systems it takes about 1500-2000 + watts.

all types of people who've never heard a loud system at all can sit in steve meade's truck.

dudes 2 15's did not make it impossible to be in there.

Don't remember the meter but it was with doors/windows closed. Call Eastgate Electronics in High-Point, NC and ask them which meter they used in 97-98. But yes sir 149-151 all day.

Daily driven black 93 toyota pickup with 10 switches and wall for amps in the back with the 4-15" Kickers firing into the cab.

Yes, it was designed with the help of Steve at Amp Medics. They are great amps, I have many friends that run them.
