What year did car audio change

Don't remember the meter but it was with doors/windows closed. Call Eastgate Electronics in High-Point, NC and ask them which meter they used in 97-98. But yes sir 149-151 all day.
Daily driven black 93 toyota pickup with 10 switches and wall for amps in the back with the 4-15" Kickers firing into the cab.
149-151 on the meters they used back then was more like 140 on a termlab. tl's, which are the standard meter now, i dont believe existed back then, or if they did, were not widespread at all.

I know what you mean, I remember when 75-125 watts would bring the cops down.
this can still be done:fyi: you guys are giving the equipment far too much credit. a 125 watt 12, in a well designed ported enclosure, will surprise 99% of people. earth hasn't lost the properties of physics yet.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

they may have been around, but probably cost 100 grand to buy one, and the computer to process it.

well it was wattage classes back then and most ran hc amps. so you could get 1k + out of a couple hundred watt rated amp. and i dont think the difference is as much the amps as the subs and enclosure design. if you take a 100wx2 today i dont think it is like a 100w x2 old school amp. personal opinion. if someone has the equipment to do the test let us know. i would like to see a punch 200ix vs a new 2002 or 200.2

those old cheater amps were killer. some fosgates were extremely underrated.

I agree, Like my old school 100x2 amp. My Orion 2100HCCA, would shoot out close to 2000watts.

i have a ppi pc2350, which is probably not that underrated. nice though. i have an xtant a4004, which is way underrated, and not really that old school yet. i also have a rockford 100.2, which i haven't even hooked up yet. not sure yet how it performs, but it is really small.

I heard systems ran off of the Punch 45 pre HD design. Meaning 2 15's and the RF plates and the system slammed hard. My buddies and I saw and heard about 5 systems with that kind of set-up.
