What would you do if someone broke into youre house while you were there?

You are generally permitted to use minimal force to remove a trespasser from your property (someone on your property who has no lawful claim to it, whom you have asked to leave and who has refused), but you may not cause him serious harm unless he is violent, in which case the usual AOJP rules apply.
You cannot shoot someone for stealing your car. You cannot shoot someone for stealing your wallet. You cannot shoot someone for wandering over your property line. In the eyes of the law, life has priority over possessions—even a criminal’s life. You may defend your own safety with the use of force, but not your stuff.
laws are different for different states, you all pretend to be big tough guys, and when you shoot someone for stealing your tv and end up with a homicide charge be sure to come back here and ask our many lawyer members for legal advice

Exactly. I was reading about that.

You can meet force with force, and in some cases deadly force. (if you feel threatened or someone that is in your house legally is in danger of bodily injury or death)

Rack the shotgun and instruct them, if they do anything do anything OTHER then exactly what I say, Id shoot them until they stopped moving.

Edit: Id advise against a rifle in this type of situation. You dont want to be in court over a manslaughter charge because you accidentally killed a neighbor. Besides, a single 3" #4 buckshot will put more .22 caliber holes into a target in 1 shot then an AR magazine could hold. I doubt penetration would be an issue. Even if by some miracle it were an issue, the next round is a 400+ grain .72 caliber slug.

Happened to me while I was at my cousin a few years ago. I was sleeping on the couch, and I heard the kitchen sink running, so I get up, look out there, and there's this f-ing guy standing at the sink. At first I was just looking at him, there was a party at my cousins house so I wasn't sure who he was, he could have been a person that was at the party. By then my cousin came down( I guess he heard it?), he screamed "what the f*ck are you doing" to the guy. The guy dove out the back window. As he was getting out, I reached under the cushion where I had placed a little .380 that I had on me that night and let off a shot. I don't think I was really aiming to hit the guy or nothing, just to scare him more than anything I guess.(I was still a little drunk, still half asleep, and confused like a mofo at what was going on)

I'm not a chump or anything, but I'm not gonna lie, when I realized the guy wasn't supposed to be there, I was spooked. I guess it was just waking up in that situation. It's a weird feeling, for weeks, even when I was back at my own house, I didn't want to go to sleep in case someone broke in.

Turns out the f-er was washing up in the sink, he cut himself somewhere on the back window, there was blood on the glass.

My cousins dad is a cop, so he called him to see what to do, and my uncle called in saying that an officers family needs assitance or something. Tons of cops were there in like 3 mins., which if you have ever seen philly cops reaction times, is pretty good. Turns out, whoever it was was hitting house all over the neighborhood.

silly americans want to shoot someone so bad :p i got a machette beside my bed //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
your machette won't do much against a criminal that's armed. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

most criminals who try to break into houses will be armed and dangerous.

3 or 3.5" 00 Magnum 12 guage rounds would do the trick tho //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

3/4 of the people in this thread wouldent do anything but call the cops, but to the other 1/4, dont honestly believe you can shoot someone for simply breaking into your house... check with your local police first, because 9 times out of 10 , you simply cannot shoot someone for trying to steal something from you, ESPECIALLY if there back is turned or as there trying to escape
