what sub for 800x1 amp@1 ohm?

There's my answer.

800 watts isnt enough to get the full potential out of a XXX or Brahma. 800 watts is just about ideal for an IDMax tho, or maybe a W7.
Depends on what you want. 400W was probably enough for what I really want, but the extra headroom is really nice. Also factor in the under-rating of the HCCA series. Just because you are not running the sub to its limit doesn't mean that you are wasting potential. If SQ is your goal then you are doing just fine.

There is about 2" between the sub and the amp. Plenty of room. I doubt i have enough power to get it close. Never plan on finding the limit of the sub anyway.

Something smaller wouldn't have the linear output that the XXX has. I don't need to push it to its limit, nor do I want to. I'm after linear output, not SPL. Look at it this way, I could have gotten a sub that would have reached its full potential with the 800-1000W that the 250 puts out. It might end up being a tad louder than the XXX with that power, but since it is operating at its limit, it will sound like it. The XXX is operating in its comfortable range and not straining. Factor in the XBL^2 and it's not likely that anything will sound as good with that power. I don't think I could be more pleased with the setup.

helo, first off I wasnt referring to your setup, or bashing it at all. I like it, very much. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif I just would recommend a combination slightly differently for someone starting out new. I agree with your linearity comments, except when you DO factor in Xbl^2. Look at their BL curve, its flat. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif For example, an Adire Koda would be a better fit for that power range, and would reach its limit easier. But with its Xbl^2 motor design, its distortion output, even near or at peak excursion is basically inaudible... that's the beauty of Xbl^2. Headroom is a proven SQ technique, but Xbl^2 really limits the need for it. factor in a tight budget for the sub, and Id recommend a smaller (Xbl^2) driver.

But again, I do agree with what you are saying on linear excursion with non-BL optimized drivers, 100%.

BTW, did I mention I really like your setup? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Ive always thought those Orion amps are the best looking amps made, and well, XXX's are simply audio-bliss. Which is why I bought XXX's, and may consider Orion amps to push them.
