My friend is going to buy my Rockford fosgate T1000-1bdCP which the birth sheet says puts out 1,600rms at 1 and 2 ohms, he will have a 130 amp alt and a small battery in the trunk, will he be okay with 4 gauge connecting both batteries and the amplifier or will he need 0 gauge?

He will never be upgrading after this

The amp only has 4 gauge imputs

Use 1/0 from front to back and big 3 then use 4g from back batt to amp. Don't forget you will also need to ground the rear batt with 1/0

We will have to do it that way? He'll just have sh*tty voltage if 4 gauge is used connecting batteries?

Btw I had a mustang with the same amp and I did use 0 gauge connecting both batteries and the voltage stayed above 13.0 volts even bumping at idle with no big three, that 130 amp alt is beast lol

My installer guy and I were looking at the factory wire from the battery to the alternator and estimated it was about 6 gage maybe! That's why a high output alternator needs upgraded wires to the battery. Part of the proverbial Big 3.

He was installing my dedicated 0AWG from the battery neg post back to the amp box. Got it done too! :)

imo get 1/0

its not that much more expensive and you have to do it so why not do it right.

4awg will be ok if you really cant justify getting the 1/0

make sure to fuse at both sides of the front to back positive. if your wires does get hot and melt the insulation you really dont want that shorting out.

This table shows the wire size versus current versus total round trip wire length to maintain under a 3% voltage drop.
My preference is to use the table and go at least one size thicker.
In other words, bigger is better, 0AWG at least to/from the alternator to the battery and to any power consuming loads like amps.
