what should i make tweeter pods out of

Like I said, I want it to stick but it won't. That's the problem. Ialso want to use something a little easier to work with that's why I want to use a body filler

He said he is trying to cover the panel with fiberglass not keep it from sticking.

Did you try to rough the surface up before you tried to apply the fiberglass?

The entire panel should be scuffed with a medium grit sandpaper or scotchbrite pad. This will allow the resin to etch to the panel. You can cut small PVC tubing to use as a cup for the tweeter, then cover the entire cup assembly with mat and resin. Sand smooth and paint to match other panels or cover with vinyl.

is fiberglass the best route to go though? Would something like rage, duraglass, or kitty hair be more effective. The reason i'm asking is because ive seen people use so many different substances to make these pods out of.

i agree that holes need to be drilled to allow the resin to get through - that's what really holds the assembly on.

pvc tubing or end caps can work great.

are you going to cover them with fabric? what kind of look are you going for?

i'd just use grill cloth or thin fleece as the base, that way you can get whatever shape you want. without gobs of filler.

for testing purposes i took an easier route:

pvc and modeling clay for a base:

silicone to help hold everything in place and a terminal strip for wiring (a molex plug is the right thing to use)

then cover in the fabric of your choice. i chose black so the tweeters are hidden from outside the car

the fit and finish is pretty good.

from here, i could actually just resin and sand/fill/repeat/paint them, but i prefer the fabric for absorption and feel.

I want to paint them a flat black so they look stock

I already had to scrap one set due to the mounting ring shifting while i was stretching fleece over it:

Also, do you know if i can use wood filler on fiberglass to smooth it out?

Its hard to be sure just visually, but aiming on those tweeters looks way off. The passenger side one appears to be aimed directly at the driver's face, while the passenger tweet looks like its aimed at his ankles.

Again, may just be the pics and/or viewing angle, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

yea that was the screwed up set that i had to scrap. i cant get any glue to stick to the polypropelene plastic piece, so when i glued the mounting ring to it, the ring shifted while i was stretching fleece over it.
