What should i check?

Ok i had a thread about another problem with my system, basically asking if it was the amp or not and should i send it back for replacement.

Problem: On any song, as soon as the amp is signaled a low note/bass in a song, the sub reproduces a 'distortion' sound, almost like crackling. this noise could sometimes be confused with the voice coil rubbing on a bad sub.. audibly it's like an "errrrrrrrrr" sound. very hard to describe...

solutions i've tried:

1.) had amp sent back to us amps. they repaired a capacitor. problem still occurs.

2.) head unit out for warranty replacement/brand new head unit

3.) upgraded charging system (grounds, thicker wiring, new yellow top, excessive amperage 200 amp alternator)

4.) replaced wiring in trunk (where amp is)... ground is located on strut tower; tight; sanded paint around contact point best i could

through all of that, i had my amp sent back to us amps. they were ready and willing to give me a new RA number as i -really- think the amp is the issue (an overlooked problem by us amps techs)

music plays fine, the sub is fine...the reason i say the sub is fine is because i had previously had this same problem and put a small alpine MRD series amp on it, and it pushed it nice. obviously not as loud as i wanted, but still the sub performed great and sounded awesome.

now, as soon as i put on the ax-1500de to my (xxx 18") immediate problems. distortion, crackling, etc. bass would SOMETIMES come through, and it would BOOM, but as soon as i would turn the volume up bang back to straight distortion.

guy @ EA said all alternators are voltage tested before they ship out.. so i highly doubt that's the problem..

next problem: if us amps says that they've done all they could and the amp was tested to be in 100% working condition, then it's obviously something else.

the main reason i lean away from the alternator is because i had a acdelco 200 amp alt on it, and the problem was still there. same thing when i upgraded to an EA 200 amp alternator. i just am sooooooooooo tired of not having a quality system that i want to focus on what the problem could REALLY be, rather than replacing every god **** thing in the vehicle to eliminate possible issues. i haven't had the bass i love in probably 3 months and u bassheads know how annoying some songs are without it... im dyin!! huge sub in my car and i cant even bang it!!

could my rear ground be the problem? i know the rubber around the metal contact is a little scraped but i don't see how that would cause massive distortion especially ONLY when the bass comes in in a song - not constant distortion..

so in which direction should i look IF i have the alt tested with a dmm? where do i go from there if the amp is said to be 100% working (which in actuality i think is the underlying problem - a missed issue on the amp)

I don't understand the part where you said you've ruled out the sub as the problem? Have you hooked it up to another working amp and checked it?

Also, the ground could be the problem, I would take care of that for sure.
