OK guys, I'm at my witts end with this mess! I have installed a sony explod 250 that runs my sub and a boss 350 to run my 6x9 and 5 1/2 mids. When I first did this, I started with just the sony running my 6x9 and Mids and had a pretty good sound.However, I still couldn't get the sound I was looking for. So I added the 2nd amp and an 8in sub along with a 2way crossover. Now I have the sound I want but I also have mega motor noise. So far I have changed my spark plugs,added a noise reducer between my battery and head unit,and grounded each amp and the crossover separately. I still have bad motor noise. What else should I do to remedy this,or can it even be remedied?

Doh! Maybe I should give my system info.

HU - Pioneer DEH-P470H Super Tuner 3 MOSFET 45wx4

6x9 - 2 - 250w Pioneer - Mids - 2 - 5 1/2in Bose (watts unknown) - Sub - 8in Pioneer Tube

Amp 1 - Sony Explod 250w 2 channel (bridged on sub)

Amp 2 - Boss 350 4 channel

CO - Boss 2 way

try grounding all three items to the first ground you had when you had no engine noise.

Could be the Boss Xover too. Those things are pretty crappily built.. no offense, but you may want to go get a new one if you try everything and nothing helps.

Keep trying process of elimination.... i.e. unplug RCA's, try new ones, unplug amps, you get the idea.

and as always, keep us posted on what you try and what the results are.

I originally had all 3 units grounded in the same place. And you're not the first to tell me Boss is crappy. Not just the CO but the Amp as well. I have nothing invested in either as of yet. I want it all to work the way it's supposed to b4 I'm out any cash. I have not tried new RCA's yet,but I will as soon as daylight gets here. Also,I have all 3 units grounded separately but they are all powered through the Sony amp. Do I need to power them all separately as well?

No you do not need to power them separately. You do however need to insure your main power wire is big enough. The question I have is do you hear the noise through all the speakers, or just the sub or the mids and highs?????

Get rid of the CO and hook each amp up to the rcas that come out of the HU. See if the noise goes away. If so you know the CO is inputting noise. If not then I would almost look at running another wire all the way back to the Battery. I have had a few cars I have done installs in that it was the only fix. Good luck

wait, your daisy chaining the power? thats kinda a no no. Get a D block for a couple bucks and split the main line. You prolly need 2 awg for the main line for that many amps, but 4 awg may work ok too. for the splits if you use 2 awg then you can use like one 4 awg leg and two 8 awg legs, if its a 4 awg main line, you can really only use three 8 awg legs.

go ahead and do what the other dude said and take the crossover out line, and just run the rca's to each amp and see if that takes care of the problem.

Well I drive a 90 model S-10ext cab. I'm not so sure if I understand all I know about that 4awg and 8awg and D block stuff. And the factory system (if that's what you wanna call it) was just the standard am/fm cassette delco that came in the truck. Can I get the D block and wire at wal-mart? This "project" has been ongoing for near 3 weeks now,and my frustration is building everytime I crank my truck. I'm gonna go out and eliminate each unit one at a time and see if I can pinpoint where the noise is coming from. Also, do you think I should ground my alternator with another ground other that the one it already has,thus having it grounded 2 times? Makes no sense to me,but I'm willing to try anything at this point.

Yeah Yeah,and I also have 20 gigs of **** on here. But all of that is totally irrelevent to the reason I have come here seeking help and/or advice. Now, I found out something about my problem that I either hadn't noticed before,or just didn't think anything of it. But on my HU, I can cut the power to the amps and crossover all together (which I knew that).What I didn't realize is, when I cut the power,I still have motor noise. The HU power is still on and playing only the front speakers (which are not amped),and the noise is still coming through the mids and 6x9s. Does this narrow things down a bit,or would I be better off just giving up and going back to the 1 amp and no sub? That's not what I wanna do,but I also don't wanna hear a motor buzz whilst I am driving down the road.

You said you had the Delco system right? As in Delco Bose. Which means in turn that there is a factory amp(s) somewhere. Find and remove those and I bet you lose that noise too. Speakers that are dually powered usually have all kinds of weird noise issues.

You can get the wire and Distrobution block at wally world. Basically the D block just splits one huge line into some smaller more usable lines for the amps. Better overall for the power to the amps. Cuz.. and some one correct me if I'm wrong, when you daisy chain the power, if one amp hits hard and uses all the current, what happens to the other amp... no power so no workey.

The stock ground should be ok for the alt. Fix the power situation first, then if the buzz is still there, do the process of elimination idea, and after that if it still is there, search for a factory amp.. if its still there.

Thanks John! I have been to wally world and bought everything I need (i think). Come tomorrow morning I plan on declaring war on the mysterious noise,and I think maybe I have the ammo to win this thing! As for the factory amp, I seriously doubt it. The factory sys was AC Delco and allthough it wasn't all that bad,it wasn't all that great either. I will however,look for an amp and I will checkout the owner's manual and see what it says. You've been a great help and I'll let you know tomorrow afternoon how things turn out.

if there are no factory amps another problem people run into when putting new h/u's in is they should re ground them.....i've seen some pretty bad noise induced into systesm by using the facory ground for the h/u....had a simlar problem in my old toyota....jus made a new h/u ground and problem was solved.....

SUCCESS!!! Well fellas I finally got rid of the noise! And I didn't even have to open the new wiring kit,nor did I have to install a D-block. Installing a Ground Loop Isolator,which connects to the HU via the RCA cables and into the crossover,was all I needed.I also bypassed the crossover and hooked to the amps only and it worked perfectly.I think I'm gonna do away with the CO and get another amp to replace the Boss amp,and go with the 2 channel 250 explod and a 4 channel Sony as well. There are still a few more wrinkles to iron out,but the motor noise is no longer a burden. Thanks again John and Mike for your help with my delima. I'll prolly have a few more questions when I get my new amp,but for now I'm good to go!
