People misunderstand the term break-in for speakers, mainly imo because they relate it to breaking in a vehicle's engine. Virtually all subwoofers Ive been around from the start experienced loosening of the suspension over the first couple weeks of use, but unlike car engines, they wont break from ignoring this. You will notice the sound get louder, and SQ will likely improve, but there really isn't any concern something will break.
Also note, if you set your gains by ear when you first install the new sub, its a good idea to go back and reset them again once the sub has loosened up. Mechanical power handling will decrease -slightly- during this period, among other reasons.
