What happened to Pioneer?

The ribbion cable problem it with the flip out screens, the ribbon cable breaks all the time and is expensive

And yes i feel the new pioneers are cheaply built and hard to use. However there entry level stuff 2000-4000 is still nicley constructed and doesnt use that stupid everything knob. It seems kinda backwards to me but o well

And the dude with the 2000, thats one of the 3 models they are currently making that are still good quality

My first deck was a Kenwood. 4028. Was very good till it started smoking. Warranty replaced it. Give it to my dad, he liked it + it was new.

2nd was a JVC ar720 i think .I liked it a lot never burnt up. Never any problems. Very good imo.

3rd is the deck I run now. My beloved Clarion DXZ955MC. Couldn't be happier.

Then I got my truck. Went with an Eclipse flipout. Wasn't too impressed with that one, but a few of my friends have DD screens and I like the one's they owned. But they were gps,usb fully loaded.

Then I traded that for a clarion screen which is now for sale. I like it but don't really watch movies. And were I live people like my toys too much. So it's gotta go. Other than that, I like it.

Pioneer's build quality is a big problem.
Between the ribbon problem and the fuse problem, I never buy them anymore.
i know with the avic n1, n2, and another one i believe they recalled the ribbon (flex cables) and reimbursed anyone that had paid to get them fixed. i wasnt the original purchaser of my n1 and they reimbursed me 210 dollars.

eclipse AVN FTW!

I have been using pioneer for the past 4 years and I love mine. Matter of fact I think for the mid range... pioneer on average is better than the competition I've thoroughly checked out.

I've used a panasonic and that was ok.... I havent really checked out clarion.

I have however used Alpine and Kenwood... common themes in this thread.

And except the KVT-512, being a quality flip-out and pretty affordable to me... im not impressed with their headunits at all. Their DD is ok.... and works really well for applications where it must look more stock too.

Alpine.... style hasnt changed in years.

Nothing wrong with that, but I find alpine no more easy to use than Pioneer. Alpine is very solid, but doesnt offer me the mastery of my audio that pioneer does.

And I rather like the rotary knob.... its very easy to use... I dont know why people get so **** confused with it. the new styling is cool too.

I literally use the 2000-7000 every day.. as well as install them... and pioneer is the number one seller for headuniots right now... and I've never seen any come back.

I saw a defective out of box kenwood today....

Not trying to pump up pioneer at all... though I am a fan of them. Everyones experience is different.

Most of the new decks ****, across the board, but I am old school. Nobody makes a deck like they used to. I am running Eclipse 8445 which is about 3 years old, but Kenwood Excelon is the only new stuff I would buy, or Maybe a Clarion. I had Excelon 881 for 3 years without a problem, until it was stolen. I have owned every brand there is over the last 10 years, even Alpine, and Eclipse have fallen off. Its more about Ipod features and crap and SQ and functionality.

I'm looking to upgrade the one in sig to something a bit newer and having a hard time. Was a pioneer fanboy, but the only thing I'd upgrade to is a 880 right now.

I just updated the new firmware on my avic-f90bt. It works great with my iPhone. It's got bluetooth, nav, ipod, and voice command. Check out avic411.com for more info.

Just sold my 880 as it is an awesome deck, so awesome, I never used half the stuff it was capable of. Stuff is just over my head I guess.

I did just get a basic Kenwood Excelon x-492, which is a cheaper deck, but was what I needed to fit the bill. Still has 4volts and will be a lot easier to navigate.

Plus I sold most my audio stuff. Just doing componets in deadened doors and a small amp.
