What Direction Subs Firing Hatchback

I’m looking to run a single 12 sub in my ford focus hatchback in a ported box. Should I build the box to have the sub firing back and port back, sub up port back, sub up port up, or any other combinations?

I had a friend in High School that had a 92 Civic hatchback.
He had 2 fosgate 15's facing up ported up running off a puch 200
He basically turned the whole cargo area into the box.
If it was done today you would use fiberglass to do it but this was 1993 and fiberglass was not used much so they just did it out of wood.
Anyway it was loud and clean. Everything bounced off that back window and came forward
That system is what started my car audio obsesion

Sub back and port to the side.

When I had my Ford Focus I had luck with sub up and port back.
