i have in the trunk of a grand marquis with a kx 1200.1 amp. i got 135:(

the guy i bought the sub sold the custom box for the DD. he said it was reading 144 dbs at 28hz.

mine was 135 at 48 hz.

he used to have the sub in a ford ranger, and mine is in a 00 grand marquis.

what factors play in getting such a big difference?

the guys that did my reading said that it would only be a bit wider.

You got it from Chris? Cabin gain makes a HUGE difference for 1 thing...next, his box was designed to peak low. If your resonant is in the 40s, his box would be tuned to low for your application. Lastly, he had his on a Audison 1k which is about as clean as you can get for power

And for reference, i did 141.7 on 544w with a single sa12 in a trunk car...so you definately have room for improvement

yea how did you know? well the box he used to have the dd was already sold so i bought another box from him, which is great but he specified that it wasnt built especially for the sub. i just wanted to know if i can expect a noticeable difference in db gain from a proper enclosure. im barely getting into car audio so i dont really know where to start : car speakers, enclosure, amps. its nice hobby though

the enclosure will make or break a system.
thegreatestpenn on here was hitting 140 or just over with a pair of explode 12s.

moral of the story is, its all in the box.
That's going a bit far, but yes, the box will definitely make a huge difference. A sub and a box not built specifically for the sub is like closing your eyes and picking clothes at random. A sub and box built specifically for said sub is more like a custom tailored suit.

yea i know that now. im thinking of switching amps. however i wanna work with what i have now for the time being. dont have a whole lot of money for another alt or a bunch of batteries. probably gonna stay with the same amp for a bit. so until then im gonna try to upgrade box or highs. im seriously lacking highs right now but i also want to get a box custom built. not really trying to add more subs until my setup is perfect and im getting the absolute most out of it.

If you want to hit numbers, tune higher. He was tuned really low if he was hitting 144 @ 28hz. That's a great score you're going to have a hard time beating that.
well not necessarily trying to beat the score, just wondering what the difference was. dont know if it was his box, cabin, or amp. i still love the sub, but i want to be as loud as possible in my car with that one sub. got a good deal though, so im really liking it.

his box did peak at 28hz...have seen him at many shows and he was always around 43.5-44 with it... his setup was a downfiring setup..he also had work done on that box by basically the 2 most respected shops/box guys in Fresno......that said, your kicker is actually a pretty solid amp. I dont know how hard those cars are to get loud, but with an optimal box, you will absolutely see a huge difference..one of my teammates is local, and does good box work...pm me if you would like
