This IS the real answer to this question, but everytime someone ask what size box is recommended for a particular sub everybody jumps and say to put it in this and that, and tune to this and that.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif

Manufacturer recommended enclosure size is given so you can get the best possible sound.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/word.gif.64b12e39f936af3b4fff38a1c0bd0244.gif

Now if you want to TRY a recomended size to see what happens, that is another story.

BTW, if you download that sub's manual, it gives you three choices of enclosure size, minimal, recommended and maximum.

Follow the manufacturer recommendations and you should be good to go.

I wouldnt go much bigger than recomended. Soo id say no bigger than 2 cubes per sub. How much power are u giving these? I hope ull be giving them at least 800 rms per. Should yeild nice results.

Tell us what u think once u get em all setup.

No, this is NOT the real answer to the question. It is the horrible answer and may not line up to what the poster wants out of his subs.

NOT correct at all. That was not the manufacturer's goal in mind when putting their "recommended" enclosure in the manual. Almost always, they will under size their enclosures and call for too little port area for ported enclosures. They will usually recommend a higher tune as well. Their reasoning? The smaller enclosure means more mechanical power handling which means fewer subs coming back under warranty due to mechanical damage. With ported enclosures, they usually recommend a higher tune and small port area to keep the enclosure small. Smaller enclosures are appealing to the average consumer.

When designing an enclosure, the user's goals, desires, available space, and vehicle type must all come into play when getting the best sound out of your setup. The manufacturer does not know these things and cannot accurately recommend an enclosure that yeilds the best sound for everybody.

Yea, he about covered it.

3 cubes is way too big for a 12. If you're tell us what you're looking for we can recommend a box that will suit you.

Eg: SQ with better low end = over sized sealed. 2 cubes each.

i got mines at 1.8 (with the polyfill, 1.55 without) each and they sound just fine...i bet they would sound nicer with more but i don't got the space right now...

So manufacturers are "wrong".....huh //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif
They're not wrong but you are wrong in saying they offer the "best possible sound" and that is a fact. Manufacturers do not know you, nor do they know anything about how and where their subs will be installed.

You obviously haven't played around with enclosures outside of what the manufacturer recommends. It's too bad you probably have never really let your equipment live up to it's full potential. Ignorance is bliss though, isn't it? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

That's fun to do. Ever put a 12" in 4.5 cubes sealed to see what will happen? I'm still trying to get a video of it (no time) but the result is bouncing quarters 4" off your roof @ 20hz.

ultimate157: I already read that....thanks anyway

:slap:Ok MR I KNOW EVERYTHING, did you read all the other posts, what everybody suggested?

You didn't even help.........did you recommended the guy a size? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

OH and yes "Ignorance is bliss...."........for people like you.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/slap.gif.87520e8ca8e90076ac30e777c0de5331.gif

To the original poster I will say try what's recommended, if you don't like it you can try other sizes, tuning, as suggested by others.

My 2 cents.

Did I ever claim to know everything? Nope. More than you about this topic? Apparently. I guess if you think you know a ton of stuff and then somebody who knows more comes in, they must be God. I'm sorry to disappoint but I do not know everything - very little in the grand scheme of things.

Why haven't I suggested anything? These reasons:

1) I don't know the users goals and plans.

2) I don't have any experience with those subs.

3) I don't know the vehicle the user has.

4) I don't know the power the user has available.

5) I don't know the dimensions available.

Please explain how I am the one who is ignorant when you are the one who blindly follows manufacturer's specs and ignores all other factors. I'm the one who explores all posibilities to get the best sound for me. Do you know what it means to be ignorant? I really doubt you do.

If you know more or less than me.......wao big issue, who cares, that's not the point here.

Why didn't you asked if you wanted to help?

And no, you are wrong, I don't blindly follow manufacturers instructions.

"I'm the one who explores all posibilities to get the best sound for me.", very good and everybody tries to do that, but not everybody has the time, money, expertise, knowledge that YOU have, and for THOSE the recommended sizes work very good. That is my point not that if you are wrong or right.
