What are my options?

I have a 2001 Mercedes S500. The 6-disc CD changer mounted in the trunk has crapped out. Aside from the fact that a used one is expensive and a new one is outrageously expensive, I really don't want a CD player. It's an optical system. What I'd like is a way to plug an ipod in, inside the trunk. I have an old one I could leave in there. Anyway, what are my options? Anyone? Thanks a lot.
