what are good 8" mid-bass speakers.

Go download some test tones and find out where you weak spots are.. grab a 60,80,120,160,200,250,300,400 tone all recorded at the same volume and play each one, not super loud, but you can hear that way which notes your missing, it makes it easier to judge.

Anyway if it IS upper midbass, 250ishhz, those faital pro should be a great value. If your amp puts out 250 watts at 2ohms, your only giving them 125 per speaker, the faitals will handle that no problem. Powerhandling is NOT a major key to output when it comes to mids and highs. The difference between the 125 those faitals are rated at and 250 watts, the top end of what you want is only a db or two in real life, not a drastic change. Also those faitals are 3db more effecient, they will get at minimum as loud as the PRV. Since the PRV is likely overrated and has less xmax, odds are the PRV would be quieter, even if you put 125 on the faital's and 225 on the PRV.

the fatal pro,fe200 you are looking at are pretty **** good in my opinion, they don't play down lower like i would like them to at higher volume but for the most part they are solid speaker i have an 8 in each driver and passenger door of my xb,you will need to deaden your door ,i have mine bridged on a ppi p900.4 and they absolutely love it,

i was just thinking...

would it hurt my sound if i get a 8" that plays lower ? like about 50hz and up. or would that screw up the sound from my 15"

would not mind more bass up front.

also now that im going 3-way i need to get a h/u thats 3-way active. or maybe a processor ?

and need to figure out were to cross each speaker size. and at what slope would be best. i was thinking at 24db slope ?

i have been reading up on slops and ranges . im lost really lol.

This is why you need to get some tones and figure out which area needs help. Basically it's always going to be a tradeoff. A speaker that plays better lower midbass will be quieter in the upper midbass and visca-versa. If you want more is lower midbass to take some work off your sub and blend better, you want a lower effeciency speaker that won't get as loud up top, like the silver flute. If you want upper midbass, lower midrange, you want something like the faital.

A processor is always a good idea if quality is important to you. With practice you can learn to tweak the sound of drivers quite well and do more with a few hundred in processing than spending literally 1000's on speakers would have gotten you.

see this is why i ask,,, great info...

**** i really know what i want but not sure its what i really need.

im going for good sound but want it LOUD big spl thats what im going for. and of course i want bass you can feel in the chest.

ok i need to see what kind of back space i have and run so tones and see were i need to be.

thanks. im going to try and do that today.

In terms of both pure skull-smashing output and sound quality, you really can't beat the JL ZR800's, especially if run no higher than 250-500Hz as part of a 3-way setup. I really, really regret selling my pair and am looking for another pair.

thanks very much, good info. and your right it seems like im missing some higher bass ( midbass ) and trying to get a good fill. thats why im wanting to go 3-way front stage. but i dont want to replace what i already have. im very happy with the sq pro 6.5 and comp tweeters. what im running right now is in my sig. but going to get another set of tweeters.
so im trying to find what would be good in my truck/doors and thats 4ohms as i want to run 2 at 2 ohms. that has good xmas the more the better,, good power handling . something that can take 200 to 250rms . thats what my amp puts out at 2 ohms.

also needs to be shallow as my doors are not BIG as i like my windows down.

anyway i think you guys know what im looking for, i just have no idea what would be good for me.

also was thinking from 70-80hz to ???
so whats actually missing from your music? drum kicks? or bass guitar rumble?

Not sure, im trying some tones now. I have noticed about 70kz its very weak. Im still testing from 70hz to about 400hz.

ill report in a few what I find out.

but im looking for harder hitting upper bass. Or lower mids.

I know the Dayton rs180 come in 4 ohm as I have 2 pair. Thought the 8s did too.

Check out exodus anarchy but they are 6.5

I've got a set of rs180 nib if you want pm me

To get really good performance takes quite a bit of work to the doors. I've got deadening only but have a big to do list for the rest. Unfortunately it's 100* and I'm not going outside as I work outside so when I get home I stay in.

So I have a question that I noticed no one else asked.

You said you want to buy two speakers that are 4 ohm and wire down to 2 ohm. Were you planning on running two in each door and wire down to 2ohm for each door, or were you gonna put one 4ohm in each door and wire them together at the amp to get you down to 2ohm?

Reason why I'm asking is if you only do one in each door and wire down, you lose your left/right separation. Both sides would be playing the same thing. If you are going for SQ that is not a good thing. You wouldn't be able to set a very good sound stage. You want each side doing its own thing. Think of it as being able to close your eyes and hear a stage in front of you. Being able to picture where at each instrument is located. When listening to live recordings, you can hear the singer move around stage. Hear were at someone in the crowd is when the whistle.

My recommendation is the Exodus Anarchy's. They say 6.5 but most 6.5" speakers are measured at 6.5 at the outer edge of the basket. The Anarchy's measure at 6.5 at like the surround. I had to sell the first set I ever bought because they were huge when I got them. Easily an inch bigger in diameter than the Pioneer TS-D1720C's I also bought that are advertised as 6.75". Huge motor on them, huge coil and excellent build quality. There is no better sounding speaker for the price. They go for like $55-$60 new but could be sold for 2-3x that and would still be an excellent buy for the money. The only complaint I ever had with the Anarchy's is that I feel they should have come spring loaded terminals that could maybe take 10-12 gauge speaker wire. I dont like spade terminals.
