How good are the common spl mid ranges?

I see everyone and their mom on TikTok running like 6 6.5” midrange db Arnold’s, ds18 red tips, pride solo 300s, and a sub configuration. To me it seems like it would be very unbalanced
I’ve never heard them in person (or an SPL build at all) and I know it’s a spl focused speaker but I’m curious how do they compare to like more sql/sq speakers? Vs my planned route?
My setup will be
Tweeters - Sb acoustic neos
Mids - 4” scan speak discovery
Midbass - stereo integrity tm65

It's great that you're exploring different audio configurations! Let me know if you have any specific questions about components or installation.

I prefer pro audio mids myself but they have to have some mid bass to them. I had 4 Crescendo UN-10s in my front doors of a car years ago and loved them. They got insanely loud and had a ton of mid bass. I did have a DSP and proper time alignment done. These were in a walled car doing 157s though.

I prefer SQ oriented systems so I prefer "normal" drivers. If you use SPL oriented drivers, I'd suggest you include some equalization to fix some of the ringing, etc caused by the lack of damping.

The pro audio mids sound fine in their intended frequency range. If you try to use them with just the mid and a subwoofer. There is usually a weak point from around 90hz to 150hz.
In my previous car their was a bump in the acoustics of the car that I always had to cut the eq in that range with normal speakers, so it actually sounded good ( not sq great, but good ) with just a sub, mid and tweeter. My current car is just the opposite. So the pro audio speakers would not be a good choice without adding some mid bass from another source.

Agree with all the aforementioned statements. The Stevens MB6 and MB8's are exceptionally good sounding pro-style midbass/midrange drivers from around 90hz+

That is the key.

Everything is a trade off but unless your car loades specifically to where pro-style mids lack, (80 to 150 hz) or your subs pick up from there, they can be loud but less dynamic as a good midbass will be.
