I'd find out what 18's are meant to be in a ported enclosure first. I have heard great things about the Havoc's... from what I read that is your best choice so far, and the SSD's next, but maybe consider dropping to 2 15's for sealed??

Not a whole lot of people do 18's sealed as Im sure you know, so wait to hear from someone that has experience with that criteria

It seems there are a couple choices....the say the SSD will work, but it is not reccomended on the website. Also, consider the IXL, MJ-18...

However, maybe you should chose one 18" ported to open up what you can do? The box space will be slightly less.

Edit: pretty sure they were on ascendant audio's site... were they on both? ....but I believe they do not sell through their website, only authorized dealers. you prolly already know this though

Honestly I think your best option if you really wanna go sealed is drop to a smaller cone size

They're brick and mortar (AA)

SSA no longer sells them, and you can only get them through dealers.

would anyone recommend he look into the SI Mags to seal them?? I bring it up because I hear all about it's great SQ and SQL, even though it puts up numbers and flexes like SPL

The mags do sound pretty good sealed. Why are you trying to dissuade him out of the 18s? FWIW, I have the same question as him...

Although I am leaning toward one 18 ported because of power reasons.

I really want to find something that works well in both sealed and ported...although im not lookin for 18"... thats why I brought up the Mag, but I havent read many reviews of it being sealed, I would just assume based on its rep it would work well....being compared to the XXX n all.

well i sold my mass and looking to go into subsonic levels....lol...im going to run 2 18's in a sealed box and use 8's for uppers and my componets....but im looking for something around 250 each woofer roughly 1000 rms a sub maybe a little more sealed so space wont be to much of an issue....also looking for some sq dont wont nothing that is pure spl....help me out guys

why 2 x 18 sealed?

1 x 'the right' 15 ported with 2000 wrms would rawk.

and you have way more choices.

Two sealed 15s does open him up to many more opportunities. The diff between me and OP is power. Having only 1,000w total limits what I can do. Unless I opt for the MJ-18s...a large sealed box lowers power handling and works to my favor.

ya that is tough, especially because sealed usually need more power in a daily setup I believe.

Ive got 3000 watts and I want 2 15" FI Q's or SSD's or Mags, or Icons... tough decision.. Mags work best with the power I have from what I see....its a tough one

Seems like the Mags have the best output potential... someone said the new 12's are only gonna be like 250....15's can't be to much more.... considering the older models were what, like 450?

I don't think he is making 15s in the new MAg.

I thought larger sealed box = less power handling?

thanks on the input guys....i still think on goin with the 2 ixl 18's.......but yall have def helped out alot....but im also thinkin on goin ported...itll be in da back of my caddy have 13 cubes and thats not all the trunk i could get more too....im lookin on the bone shakin lows but yall already know...what to tune to?? thinkin on high 20's not sure...
