welding supply wire vs others...

Kicker is 4704 strands of SILVER Tinned OFC Copper //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Welding supply wire oxidizes very easily.

what does that means?

what does that means?
that when the O2 molecules start to break down the copper due to the loose bond in the copper molecules which creates rust....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

what if you use some sleeving on the wire?? Can it avoid this?

Not really, unless it is kept away from ALL moisture/O2... it usually happens near the exposed end near the battery where the wire is stripped. And this is welding supply wire I'm talking about in particular.

so what if you tape the end of the wires with electrik tape so you cant see even a bit of the strands, will it be ok?

and why nobody(car audio wires compagnies) goes over 1/0 gauge?

is it useless??

this oxidization that happens easier with the 3/0 wire, i take it this happens more due to the quality of the jacket. well

besides that, are there any advantages or disadvantages to haveing something like kicker vs 3/0 with 19 thick strands vs 4600+ small strands? amperage carrying wise?

what kind of inline fuse do you have that accept these 3/0 gauge?

high strand count = flexibility. If you ever take a look at the 3/0 they have in home depot, you'll notice that its VERY rigid.

honestly, i'd just tin the ends of my welding cable with solder, attach my connectors (probably with the solder i just mentioned), and hit the whole deal with adhesive heatshrink.

The WS 3/0 in the picture has the same ga strands as all the other sizes. also i think RF makes some 2/0 AWG car audio wire...

hey man can u put a 25cent or 1dollar next the the wires, itll give us a much better idea !!!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

The neoprene does not lock out moisture like the PVC. The ends will oxidize first then it will move down the cable where it can not be seen. If you can tin the whole w/s cable - then you would be fine to use neoprene (problem you cant put the jacket back on)

Oxidation raises resistance and sooner or later you will have a voltage loss from the high resistance and you might not know why till you replace the cable.

Why is nothing larger then 1/0 made? length of the cable. Max length you need for a car is probably 20ft, a large SUV maybe 25ft. At that length you can draw 300A safely. If you need more current flow then this, you need some batteries in the rear and you can always run a second cable.

thx alot!!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

even though... 2 1/0 is better/thicker than 1 4/0 right?
