Ok guys (and women if any? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif ),

Im starting the install on my 2000 Olds Alero.

I put in the Metra fit kit, and went to put my radio in NO GO.

Seems Oldsmobile put a nice plastic and metal pieces right behind the radio...

So anyone with experience on this car, how do you get around it?

I got two fit kits here, a Metra and an American International... Both are showing within 1/16" mounting depth. I need to find another 1/2"+.

I can even get the radio pushed in, not even thinking about the poor optical out...

HELP!

Theres the metal in question, along with a lovely bar right above it.

Im not sure if I can get my Dremel cut off tool in there or not?

Im not to happy considering Im trying to stuff a McIntosh in there...

I had a similiar problem in an 89 pontian grand prix. My solution was a dremmel and a hand file. Took me about 2 hours LOL...but I got it to fit //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

ive heard some guys had to make room with a dremel, but i just stuck my HU in there and it fit fine. you got the head unit all turned on right? GM didn't put an accessory plug in there, so you have to run your own from the harness, its brown IIRC. GL and PM me for any other questions about aleros

Given the HU I didnt bother with a harness.

My DC-DC box is grounded at the shifter. I will be tapping into the ignition wires for the massive 2.5 amps I need... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I will just cut it, tomorrow of course. BIt dark out already //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Well my problem was that I could only move about 1/2 a mm with the file. So literally I was shaving off a thousands at a time for like 1 hour straight...it sucked LOL

Should of used a rasp instead of a bastard eh?

I will make sure to cut the most I can.

Looks like its raining out, plus I got a hella cold now...

SO here I am, car with everything out of it and probably not gonna be able to do much today... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
