welding supply wire vs others...

To sum up this post - by spending 5 hours with the welding wire, gluing your hands together, heat shrinking and taping - you can make it equal to any tinned cable, but you saved $10.....LOL
BINGO!--- I thought if I wasted the readers time with my post.... they would realize what a waste of time it is and just go ahead and pay a little extra and get wire designed to survive in the car audio environment...

wahahahaHAHAHAHA!!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I forgot to add, I measured the Kolossus and it's exactly what knu said it was, 7/16". Anything bigger than this stuff and you would need bigger ring terminals than the 1/0 kind or you'd have to cut off some of the wire.

Photo, where did you order this wire from? I'm looking for a good source for speaker wire.
this is power wire im talkin about. i got the knu wire direct from them and the kicker from sonic electronicx...

very cool. i looked like as of now from what im hearing the knu is the best bang for the buck... and kicker is the top of the line....

The Kicker is also very good bang for the buck if you buy it in the amp kit. Considering you get all of this:

20 Ft. 1/0 AWG Power Wire

3 Ft. 1/0 AWG Ground Wire

20 Ft. 16 AWG Remote Lead

Fuse Holder

300A ANL Fuse

2 Distribution Blocks

5 Ft. 4 AWG Power Wire

5 Ft. 4 AWG Ground Wire

For around $90 shipped you can't beat that. It comes out to about $3.90 per foot for the power wire, plus you get all that extra stuff.

Now time to build my new sub box //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

very true, i may just have to pick up 3 of those kits.... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I didn't come up with it, I read it here. http://www.key-to-metals.com/Article116.htm
Maybe they are wrong, I don't know.

BTW I have some Knu wire, I'll post it here in a sec, 1 day ground shipping FTMFW! It's nice being in the same state as the place you order the products from.
Sounds to me like the aluminum wire dissipates heat better than copper - which stands to reason - so it can be heated (drop more voltage) than copper w/o any danger of fire. That might work for overhead power transmission, but in car audio where people freak out about a 1/2v drop, I think it would be better to use the 60% rating than %80, but that's just me.

I believe copper generally dissapates heat better than aluminum, and Ive heard stories of aluminum wire getting hot and causing problems in homes before...

I also wonder how much bending the aluminum wire can take before its damaged.

Im really tempted to buy KLM because of the price, but im still just a bit skeptical.

I'm not sure how they came up with that number, but I agree that the 60% rating is more important. I think the 80% number might be true, but with much more voltage loss. Copper ftw.

Imagine a pure synthetic diamond wire //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif 5 times better conductivity than copper.

Ever get your Kicker and Knu for comparison?

As I have stated before and list in our PR - CCA of the same size as copper will not be equal in resistance. However if you over size the CCA cable it can be made to be greater conductor then copper. Just like 3 gauge copper is better then 4 gauge copper. Since the CCA is cheaper we can use more material and still be less expensive then current copper rates. The KLM 1/0 has 30% more material then the eKo 1/0 - this is what makes the KLM equal the eKo even though different materials are used. The KLM is in no way equal to the Kolossus in terms of resistance/ft.

The CCA is quite durable in terms of bending, we inserted the cable into our Kompression blocks repeatedly to test the tinsel strength and were impressed with the preformance of the CCA material.

I read somewhere that in order for aluminum wires to be equal to copper wires they need to be 2 sizes bigger. Would you agree?

With what we have encountered with the CCA, if you go 2 sizes you get better resistance/ft then copper at the same length. So with CCA it is probably closer to 1.5 sizes (again though it comes down to area of each cable you are comparing)

Starnd count has ALOT to do with performance of the wire.....the electricity only flows through the outer part of a strand, the middle of the wire does very little, there fore more strands=more surface=better conductivity. Now this means very little to a daily driver but for the extremely competative SPL world this could mean the difference of a world championship or 5th place.

I believe you're thinking of AC current. For DC current, it only matters for flexibility. Hell if it wasn't for flexibility... it'd be great to run 1single strand of 1/0 to your amps.

The 1st pic is basically useless without Knu Kolossus. That stuff is so monster and will not fit into any 1/0 ga terminal unless you trim it.

Ive used WS and cobra 4/0ga, the cobra looks to be a bit larger overall.

P.S

Get some 500MCM in there //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
i've put it in a r/f fuse holder, stinger battery terminal, stinger fuse block and a cheap(tiff i think) fuse holder w/o trimming anything //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
