stereoproblems

Ok this is the weirdest thing... (PLEASE HELP!)
SETUP: I put in an old head unit.. pioneer...with 2 6" 60 watt 30 rms and 2 6"x 9" 120watt 60 rms...off brand...the head unit says it's putting out 50w X4 and i'm guessing around 15w X4 rms... so my speakers are barely getting anything...
PROBLEM: I have the EQ set for more bass and when i turn it up to about 3/4 of the way it's prefect sounding..(loud with tons of bass) .. BUT... when I turn the car on and have the stereo exactly the same.. the louder bass parts make a popping or quick crackle sound on the large bass hits.
SUMMARY: When the car is OFF... speakers DON'T make popping sound on bass hits
When the car is ON... speakers DO make popping sounds on bass hits
WHAT I TRIED: I checked the wiring and it seems to be getting the 12volts i think it needs... I thought this might be the problem because when the car is running it turns on the alternater and battery is in use and it could somehow not give the head unit the right amount of power to make the powerful bass hits..
OR: It could be that the stereo sucks and can't deliver and so it's somehow getting clipped BUT then why would it only do this when the car is running..
By The Way... I have my stereo routed straight to the battery so it can run without the car on...
If you want to email me your solution.. durkmusic@yahoo.com
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
