Weird Sub Noise...

Hey guys. I gotta quick question for all you masters out there in CA land. My BX1500D's low pass filter is set to 35hz. Now, i would like to turn it up a little, maybe 50 or so. But.... when I do, my subs start humming and buzzing like a bastard. When its set all the way down to 35, I get hardly any noise at all. I also get a major POP when i first turn my car/amp on. Ground is about 5 inches long. RCA's are ehh... not the best. But i dont understand. Someone gimme a hand!
