weird problem!

running a idmax 12 off a sundown saz-1500d. the enclosure is 2.5 cubes tuned to 34hz built by stratusrt01(rich). bass at the cone of the sub sounds great but out the port it sounds different, almost like there is a metal sound. i have played the sub free air and there isnt any mechanincal noises. any 1 ever run into this?

Is it only when your ear is at the port?

Can you hear it in the cabin?

Are you playing frequencies that are below your port tuning?

Do you use a subsonic filter?

My friend has this problem with his 12L7. Its done it for quite some time(about 2 months) without breaking.

The only thing hes noticed since it started was a decrease in output.

Ok yes i do hear it in the cabin, like i said at the cone of the sub the bass sounds nice and tight but when i put my ear to the port it has a different sound to it. i have checked the box over and over and its jam up jelly tight. this just started to happen also, when everything was first installed it sounded great but then it just started to do this. THe sub is run off a sundown saz-1500d@2ohm. sub sonic is set to 25 hz. the lpf is set at a guesstimate of 60hz. it makes the bass sound like the LPF is set to 300 or so, its that bad. and like bj the man said my output has decreased. my car seems to shake more but actual output has decreased. not sure whats going on. i have a old eclipse cd3402 HU and my max listening vol is 72 out of 80. well the bass start to sound weird at a vol of 58 which the sub is barely even moving then. i can turn the LPF all the way down and still hear it. i listen to alot of dirty south rap that has alot of low bass. it's hard to explain the noise though but the best i can describe is like the box is flexing or something, but more of a metal sound. i had my wife sit on the dexk lid and she said it sounded better but i dont see how this would affect what i am hearing in the cabin. i mean i know i can hear the trun rattle some from the cabin but what i am hearing is totally different. the box is 3/4 MDF by the way.
