weird problem with polk momo's. need help

ok so i have some new 6.5 momo's and they are powered by a Orion Cobalt CO300.2 (60rms x2) at 4ohm

so i felt like testing these speakers before i put them in my doors. so i just used one channel to test one mid, one tweeter , and the crossover and at first it played music then their was a wierd whine that got higher and higher, then finally the mid woofer popped a couple times. they still play music, but both tweeters sound like their is a slight static noise going on all the time. Im kind of worried anybody had this happen to them?
