weird power issue with HU install

i have a kd-s51 jvc HU connecting to a 93 civic

i dont have the white adapter that comes stock in car it was cut out before. so im wiring HU wire harness directly to car wires.

i am connecting constant 12v+ of car which is white/blue to yellow of harness which is memory/constant

switched on car = yellow/red to red on harness

and the ground

didnt bother with speakers yet because i wanted to see if it would power on as i was having issues with the HU power not working correctly since i bought car.

power was always on so i would have to take off faceplate or else radio would stay on. bought the new harness and trying to wire it correctly and am not getting any power at all sometimes.

but sometimes when i plug in the adapter to the back of the HU i can hear my amp/sub power on and a red ring will light up around vol knob and that is all that will happen. i have checked the fuses and none are blown

also, when it was connected and working before it stopped working

the constant and switched wires were connected both to the constant wire of the car making it stay on all the time even w.o key in ignition

i'd go a little heavier ga but yeah. just bypass the stock shit

teh HU now will get power.

ill hit the reset switch on the HU and it will light up and make noise (ejecting cd noise) and then power off
