i have an 06 l7 powered by the zx750.1. now im getting this high pitched almost a sound like when something vibrates in your car sound. but its coming from the sub itself. now the box is sealed with 50% poly fill. it leaks around the edges where the sub screws into the box, as in the screws dont tighten down. would this little bit of a leak cause my sub to sound strange like this? my box is 1 cubic foot. im using cheap rcas( i know its bad its all i had laying around) but i ran them way out of the way of the power cable. what do you think? its only when i turn the sub up. my amp is set to half gain half bass boost and the other knob (i forget what its called) is at about 60. i dont have a cap, my amp kit is rated to 1400 peak. anyone have an idearrrrs? thank you so much for the help.

also: will a new wiring kit rated for the 1500 max and a cap help alot? will i notice a nice difference?

wow, that makes so much sense, i hacked the ground together. i mean like, stripped a long piece off the end and took a big screw and a washer and put it in. i wouldnt normally EVER do something like that, but it was a temp/ hack job. just to see what it would sound like. plus i couldnt wait to hear them any longer.

i just began electrical school. i should know this stuff. well, you learn from your mistakes i guess.

well, could it possibly be the leak in the box? could that cause something of a similar problem?

im also ground on the body of my truck. i tried to do a good job on sanding and getting it to bare metal. sense this is thin will it matter or not?

well not if its a constant high pitch. I really doubt it anyways. Be nice if u sealed off the leak tho. I say make a better ground first. Then if its still there go down the chain. Disconnected ur RCA's and see if the noise goes away, if it does then it's either something the RCA's are picking up on the way, or from ur HU. If its from ur HU then check ur HU's ground too.

ok, thank you so much. i can run a ground to the body or the chassis from the HU right? is there a limit on how long it can be?

Better if it's under 1.5ft, main thing is like i said make sure it's a solid bare metal ground. W/e its grounded to right now is probably fine if u just sand it down

Is the sound constant at high volume or is it in time with the bass hits? if it's in time it could be the sub frame rattling against the screw heads (or vibrating against the box)

just with the bass, yea my screws dont tighten down on the box. also the frame is not very tight on there, like i said the screws are stripped out of the wood. on the inside i have to put some pressure on the sub to get it to fit in. should it be this tight?

could it be that its deprived(sp) of power and is distorting? my amp kit is 100 watts under ratted and, im not running a cap.

also, its not at low volumes. its just when i start to get around 22 out of 34 on my HU. my amp setting are: my gain is half and my bass boost is half. the sub sonic filter is off. should that be on or off?
