weird crackling sound

a friend of mine has a 05 or 06 (not really sure) corolla. had 2 12" kicker cvr's and they worked fine. after he bought 2 re se 12's dropped them in the boxes a few days went buy working fine. then he burnt up his ground wires off his amp. (he had them ground to the big bolt that holds the spare tire down) so i told him it would be best to relocate his ground to a better spot. he didnt want to take any existing bolts or nuts loose. so we drilled a hole and grounded it to a inside brace (i made sure all the

paint was sanded off and it was nice and tight.)

we fired his car up to test them out and they didnt seem to be giving what they had been before. tested a few things thought we had it figured out got the car back together and guess what the subs didnt work and when he turned up the volume his front speakers would crackle and pop. pretty much sound like pure ***. say at volume 32 sound perfect but at 33 they would crackle and pop. i had pretty much the same problem with my truck so i figured maybe a loose speaker wire. causing the hu to get some feedback or something and distort all of them (as i was typing these last few sentences i just thought of something that could be the problem that we didnt check)

we then decided to just see if we could get the subs to work so we put the on another rca output on the HU and they worked at full range. but not on the sub output. messing around with it some more we noticed the crackle and pop stuff only happened when the subwoofer output was turned ON. when it was off they sound fine. (as im typing this it kind of makes since to my recent idea)

we figured bad HU. he bought a new one. still doing the same thing.

we double checked every wire. every fuse. and all the settings we thought would have any effect on the speakers.

we still cannot figure it out.

the thought i had while typing this is. when he had the subs hooked up to his stock HU he just used his rear speaker wires to run to a low line lever reducer. then into rca's and then to his amp. when he got an aftermarket HU he hooked the stock rear 6x9's up. when we redone his ground we took everything out of his truck including the sub boxes. my idea is we might have bumped on of the 6x9's causing the wired to come loose and be grounding out or touching. (havnt check this just thought of it.)

anyone have any other ideas on what could be the major malfunction here.

ooh and the front speakers worked fine untill we relocated the ground . we then relocated it again to see if that was the problem and it wasnt.

just for a follow up my thought of the 6x9's having a bad connection/grounding out. i was right.

why use line level rcas are the shit

he had to use the 6x9's wires to goto a line level reducer when he had his stock HU. after he bought an aftermarket one he just ran rca's all the way and hooked his 6x9's up again. we must have hit them with the speakerbox when we were taking them out.
