General Deck Install Question

me and my buddy are hard on cash right now so when we wanted to put cd players in our car we didnt want to spent the exra $20 on a wireing harnes adapter (first Mistake). so we cut the plugs off the car so we could hard wire the decks. We did this first with my winter beater, a 93 saturn sl2. So we cut the wires and i couldent even find the stupid power so long story short i couldent sort out all the wires so i conected the stock plug back to the wires and hoked the stock deck up and... almost nothing happens. the display half comes on but it doesnt display any info i just has a few parts lit up and all i can get is static. I cant chose am or fm so basicly its a static maker. Now my friend has a 91 murcury cougar and (i know a lil retarted after my first story) we cut the plugs to hard wire it agian and we couldent figure it out agian so we hooked up the plugs agian and hooked it back to the stock deck and NOTHING happend so now we have F***ed up 2 cars. This isnt our first install eather we have done probably 10-15 decks for other cars and friends. does an idea what to try or any one have a clue what to do besides rewire the car?

wow. that was stupid to cut the stock harness. really stupid. its 20 freekin bucks to get a harness that plugs in to it. to do it RIGHT!. come on.

well check for blown fuses etc.

i had to cut the stock harness on my VW in order to get an aftermarket stereo in it but that's because its german and germans make things more difficult than they have to be...

nonetheless i did some research first got a full wiring guide so that i knew what all the wires were, and then connected it to the new harness....

what you did is just stupid...

arite, well are u planning to just hook up the HU to stock speakers? or are u using the RCAs from the HU's to amps?

and yes i know it was stupid but the harnesses are all hooked up and nothing happens with the stock deck that is what i cant figure out

if its all hooked up correctly check a fuse first, because it could be as easy as replacing the fuse

w/ amp or are u powering them from the aftermarket HU .

no amp just the hu and iv looked a the fuses but that is what it sounds like so ill check agian

Fuses... you should have gone to wal-mart 8 bucks for a **** harness, steal somethign and sell it then buy harness, much more worth it.

the dumb part is after we cut the wires and started having problems we did end up going to walmart to buy the harness so we didnt save anything just learned a lesson i guess

hah dont feel to bad, i was wiring in a headunit for my sisters car and the freakin 12v and ground touched and i blew a fuse. gotta run out to the store get the fuse and wire it in on saturday. i looked in the manual and found the blown out radio fuse. just need to buy a new one

i've done that, go to autozone and buy a big fuse box like 5 fuses of every size...
