weight lifting

i lock my hands behind my head so i'm prolly pulling with my arms behind my head
That would deffinetly do it. You might be trying to pull your self up with your hands when there behind your head. cross em in the front. or hold em out flat.

They say that you can have your hands behind your neck... but that you get a better workout with the arms over your chest... give it a try and see how it feels after 20 or 25 reps.

i always did bent over rows with free weights
Yeah I did bent over rows with a bar and/or dumbells, then would hit the machine after. It wasn't a ntueallu machine or whatever their called. It was in the free weight room. I'll try and find a picture.

if i'm moving like 1 inch is that still working my abs? in high school i used to lay my hands flat along side of me and slide them on the ground when i would raise up

Duke, if you dont mind me asking how old are you?

Im 19 and I immediately begin my bicep/tricep/forearm days with barbell curls of 90x10, 80x10, 70x10, and then back up to 80 and 90 as many times as possible. Im just trying to get an idea of what to work toward, I can curl 115 a few times as soon as i get in the gym but its not worth my time to do a few reps when they arent even very good form.

do you feel your abs contract at all?

put your knees close to you, hands on your chest, should start feeling it and breathe //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

If you feel the burn you know its working...

also another good ab workout is to put your hands behing your head with your elbows facing straight out to the side like you are relaxing on the couch, and lay on your back, put your knees in a 90 degree angle in the air, and touch each elbow to the opposite knee ie. right elbow to left knee and left elbow to right knee. Keep alternating them and do 10 of each. With correct form you should be a doing a crunch-type exercise, and you should feel burn in your abs

I'm 22, and I'm curling more than I ever did when I was younger. Form is the key. My bicep routine works with some physics/mathematics scale or something weird like that. Basically its a hybrid of two different workouts. If you can do the first set, you can do the 2nd and 3rd. Then, if you can do the 4th, you can do the rest of them. My bench press is suffering though because of a shoulder injury that just keeps lingering. My back workouts are limited because of lower back trouble from when I first started getting tall and I didn't work out at all... about 10 years ago.

i feel them contract, but i feel like i'm trying to lift with my neck. also when you do situps, when you go back down, do you go all the way down to where you are lying flat on your back and head on the ground?

I never go all teh way down. That way, the muscles are constantly tight. I get a better workout like that. I also always have my hands on my chest, just resting there. Remember, all the movement should be your abs pulling your body up.
