w6 vs type x

The w6 is >> than the type X. Sure the type X will get louder, but the w6 will sound so much better doing it.
edit: definitely seal the w6
Have you had both?

I'd like to find someone who has had both and find out what they were powering it with, box size, all of that good stuff.

W6's do best in a sealed, ported won't get a whole lot of extra spl out of them, but if you know what you are doing, you can get a better low-end extention out of a ported...

but i'd go with the type-x's sealed

!!!!!!!be very carful with the (power:boxsize) ratio!!!!!!!

on alpines specs, it gives a min/max power and a min/max box size...

if you use max. power, use min. box size, and vicea versa...

best to go with the middle of both recomendations tho....

if you don't get it right you will put your sub into mechanical failure, i've seen it alot... alot of torn spiders...

do it right and those type-x's should slam

power to size ratio huh. How about ~850 watts on a 12"x would a 2^ft sealed box be too big?
as a rule 2 cubes is kinda big for a 12... i'd go for more like 1.5 and even then your gunna have a HUGE emphasis on low-end bass... 850 is pushin it in a box that big... it might be ok to set the gains so it does 850 on a test sine wave, but you wouldn't want it to see 850 all the time, or even very often... with that size box to be safe, i'd keep it around 600-750...

it depends on your box, but i have a hunch that if you put it in a 2 cube box and let it see all of 850 (which it shouldn't) @ 35-45hz, you'll blow the cone out

sealed boxes have better low extension BTW

sealed boxes have better low extension BTW
that also depends on the size of the box...

usually they do, but the 10w6 sounds like *** on the lows in the spec. sealed box... if you build a ported tuned to around 33-35hz the low end stomps that of the sealed enclosure, but then the higher range sounds like shit

so 1.5^3 at 600-750 watts would be perfect for the X? I want to have the sq but also like you said have the HUGE emphasis on low-end bass
yeah i'm thinkin that would be a pretty sweet setup, it should get so low it makes your stomache upset:laugh:

but get as many opinions asyou can, and go to a dealer, there are plenty of people that make me look like a newb, thats just what i would do... if i wanted low-extention without compromising sq

ok thanks alot, i'll do that for now (once my for sale threads pick up //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif)

then i'll get a second amp and sub since i have 3.3^ft to work with //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Edit: I've been wanting to mess around with the X's for awhile i just wasn't sure about the box size and power i should give them.

yeah i have a friend with that same setup, it's very nice... its a different kind of low than you get from most subs, EXTREMELY high quality LOW-bass no other way to describe it... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
