I would go with the type X, if you get the right box they will sound nice. But they wil both sounf good if you got a tuned box.

The w6 is a very nice, accurate sub, but so is the Type-X.... And the Type-X gets much louder!

You will not be disappointed with those subs, provided you have the space.

I will agree for the most part that Type X's perform their best in the Alpine recommended size sealed enclosure. Vented can be done, but it can be a lot of trial and error to get it in a box that sounds right. What kind of power do you have on tap for them?

i'm going from a 10W6 in fiberglass enclosure to a 12 type-x in sealed box. powering the 12 type-x with PDX.1000. i will post review here after i get my car back.
