ok, today i installed a new alternator.. it suppouse to be 165 amp.. compared to my stock 70 amp... yesterday, i hooked an epic 150, it also has a volt metere on it? well today after i installed my Alt, i crunk my car, and the voltage seem ver low to me? w/ the car crunk, doesnt the voltage suppouse to stay around 14.4?? because mine stay more around 14-11

.. so i thought tha maybe my alt wasnt working so i went o autozone and had them to check,.. the said it was good...if its good, then why come my stock alt. works just as good and if not better..maybe it has to charge or something? i dont know? i do believe w/ my stock the volts were arounf 14.4 everytime i cheacked it and 12. something when i checked w/ the engine off? and what is an ACCUVOLT and s that what i need?? or what??

Was the voltage checked at idle or say 2000 rpm?? Trying running the engine up a ways and see if the voltage comes up. Some alts wont put out full voltage until 2000 rpm or so..

very well put my friend. just try ur it when ur car is on the highway. cuz my jeep won't run at like 14.4 till its going around 1500 rpm and up.

when there is a increase in demand that the alt. cannot keep up with at a given rpm, it should raise rmp's, I know it does on most vehicles I have worked on. With that size alternator, you should be able to keep up -- voltage should be between 13.7 and 14.4 while your running the system hard. Dont be consderned if you dont see it at a constant 14.4V.

In Korea, most people add this amp-looking kinda gismo which is supposed to give you a constant 14.4V (Do I smell a cap?)

Well, I think it works pretty much like those Auto Voltage Regulators(AVR) for computers back in about '93, when everyone thought they need this, like how long ago, everyonet hought they needed a cap. I must admit though, if the meter on the blasted thing is to be trusted, well, I can say that it works. SQ winners in Korea always seem to have this, and the mftrs come out and demonstrate the thing by pushing the system a bit and see that the voltage doesn't go below 14.1V.. though when the bass hits hard on the "1812 overture", yes, it does drop to about 12.5V, but dang, that's still impressive for a car that's idling...

The system wasn't massive, but still had a few hungry amps (brax, mostly).

Well, taht's my thoughts and info on accuvolt.

yeah at idle, it around 13.5 and ill say at 2000 rpms it does go up.. it just through me off i guss cause my stock 70 amp staye at 14.4 even at idle..another thing is, i upgraded the power wire to the alt.. from 8 to 4... ok, where the ground.. is ground the lil plug that has 2 16 guage wires? how does 2 lil 16 guage wires even out w/ an 8 guage power? how do i suppouse to upgrade the plug wires? or can i?

is this why in comps, your allowed to rev your engine up to 2000 rpms? for the voltage sake? also the alter. is even larger than what i thought.. when i had it tested they said it was gven out 175 ampers.. not 165..but yet, ive still not seen the voltage at 14.4.. highese is 14.. mostly 13.9 but yeah, as long as i have my engine reved up.. it does fine in voltage...

hey paikiah, i m not sure if this is a cap, but what's this gismo called? it sounds pretty neat, i wanna check it out.

Keep in mind that there are also control wires that go to an alternator (some anyway, if you have an external regulator or if you car's computer runs the field voltage).. You control how much power the alt puts out by increasing/decreasing that voltage.. The new alt may have a different regulator (or one that isn't as good as the stock alt?).. and at lower idle it's not increasing the field voltage enough? or the computer is doing something odd? or just the fact that it's a bigger alt and might require more speed to generate current with the bigger windings, etc..

In any event, as long as you are getting the power you need -for the most part-, you should be ok..

You should try to find out if you need a ground wire or not.. you might be grounded through the case/bolt/block.. If there is a true ground wire, you probably should match it to the power wire..

but it's in Korean, don't know if you know how to read my language..//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
in english, try jacobselectronics., and no its not a cap.. its looks like an amp.. but its called an ACCUVOLT..i saw 1 on their and it tells u lil bit about them but their was no price.. i checked ebay for a price and i think it was around $250 on their

i didnt see no such as a ground when i installed it..their was 3 wires.. 1 8 guage for the power.. and then their was 2 lil 16 guage wire attached to a lil plug.. those could possible be the ground or so, but i just figured that it would atleast be an 8 to match the power..

and the other night i listen to my rado as loud as i usually do, for about 10 mins, just sittin and w/ engine reved up at 2000, and it played fine...if anything do u think i may need to upgrade my stock batter.. i have 2 batteries now, the stock in my engine, and a yellow top in the trunk.. its going to be hard for me to swap batteries up front, cause its those really small battery.. for a honda.. and i checked on a larger amp battery, but i didnt find any at Pep Boys..so, ill prob have t re locate my battery...

i'd make sure u upgrade all the wires coming from the alt to at least 8ga first and see if that helps anything.....also...on the 2nd batt u have.....do u have it wired up to the alt as well??? if so its probably presenting an additional load on the alt...anyways.....still upgrade all the wires from the alt to where ever they go to at least 8 ga first and see if that works....if not then see about getting a new batt...go the cheaper way first.....anyways...enjoy
