Voltage Problem

Soooo...my amp is going into protect (presumably from low voltage) AGAIN!.

The odd thing is....when my h/u is off i get about 13.4 volts at the amps. Then i turn my h/u on n it immediately drops to around 12.8. After playing for a short while ( a few mins) the voltage at the amps drops to around 11.6 and stays there, causing my 4 channel to go into protect. However if i turn the h/u back off the voltage goes back up to about 13.4 and then if i turn it back on the same thing will happen. Any ideas why this could be happening? It makes absolutely no sense to me

The voltage drop is because the amps are drawing power once they're turned on (the remote wire from your HU turns your amps on when the HU is on).

As for protect, your amp should run fine with 11.6volts, especially if they're powering your speakers. What ohms are they wired to and what amp is it?

i understand the original drop from 13.4 to 12.6, but i don't think a drop to 11.6 is warranted when i have 3 batts (2 kinetik hc2400s and a yellow top) and a 200 amp alt (mean green). The amp is a cadence tx-6004....it is VERY sensitive to low voltage....

all channnels measure 3.5 ohms on my dmm

double check you grounds for the rear batteries.
now that uve said that u may be right.....i was having voltage issues last week so i redid my power connections at the distro block because that was where the bottleneck was happening....after i did that it seemed to fix the problem so i didnt bother to redo the grounds....i guess that may have only fixed part of the problem....ill redo my grounds soon and see if that fixes it...i'll let u guys know how it works out

Yeah... definitely the grounds.

I thought you were just running a modest system.

But this is definitely a ground problem.

Not enough power is being fed back into the car to complete the cycle.
