Voltage drop

I have searched and read many post on second batteries and HO alts. I still have a few questions. I am running. AQ2200. And when it pounds I get a bad voltage drop I have a yellow top and a stock 105 amp Alt. Is my in stock dash voltage gauge accurate? Would adding a second battery stop voltage drop? Or just allow me to play it longer? I just want to be able to bump loud for more then a quick burp. Thanks

They both are great things to add. A battery is just for reserves when your Alt cant keep up with the demands of your electrical. But with the power your running, a second battery will most likely cure your voltage drop issues

Second battery would help, but wouldn't be the answer to all. My voltage in my truck doesn't move when the bass hits, but the voltage drops slightly, like .5v or so from idle. Your second battery would eventually run out of power from continual playing because it is not being charged back up. This would only be when your playing the music really loud tho. If you kind of "bump" while driving, you'll be fine.

Here is what I would consider your solution:

1) Big 3 (if not done already)

2) Add second battery in rear (matching the hood battery if possible)

3) Make sure you run 1/0 for power and ground between batteries

4) Upgrade your alt to keep the batteries from dying, or buy a charger to keep them topped off when you park

what type of yellowtop do you have?? a G31 YT should be enough on its own for that amp... BUT, if you just have the g34 YT, u prolly need another battery and that SHOULD solve the problem.. would be cheaper than gettin an HO alt... I don't think you need 2 batts AND an HO alt for just that amp IMO (coming from the guy who couldnt' figure out his voltage issues though. LOL)

Yes that would help but it is kind of extreme. Unless he is competing every day, he really wouldn't ever needs that, IMO. Every time the system isn't on, or isn't fully cranked up, the alt is going to charge whatever was lost from the batteries.

Yep that is why it is step 4. Go one step at a time until you fix the problem, starting at step 1 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

a single yellowtop and you alt can support that amp. do a pos and neg in zero gauge from amp to battery (no grounding amp to frame, only to battery). and then alt pos and neg to battery in zero gauge. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I have read that it is preffered to match the batterries in the front and rear...

So would it not be good to run a optima Yellow top up front and something like a Kinetik in the back??

wont hurt anything with only 2 batteries it is geared more towards multi battery installs and competing, personally i think it is a myth 20+ yrs i never match batteries and never have an issue. there is a potential for slightly lower battery life overall but i have never seen it.

so if your running a second batt in rear .. you shouldnt ground your amp to the frame ? or can you instread of groungin it to the - on the sec. batt? . cuz i have my amp ground to the frame instead of the sec batt . or would either way work? . //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
