Video of my setup!

im000204.mpg

About the video: It is large, (5.4 megs) I do not have time to render it into a smaller file at the moment. It shows the computer playing a video, then to the remote switch, then to the subs and speakers, then the amps. The sound is terrible due to using a digital camera rather than a true video camera.

Thanks to all who post on this board! I finally settled on this setup to play videos in my work van without using a hu. I installed a remote switch on the dash to power on the 2 amps. I have 4 Sony 220w 6x9’s (80 rms) powered by a 4x100w amp (50 rms), and a 10” Rockford Fosgate 150w sub powered by a Rockford Fosgate 150w amp, bridged along with a 160w powered JBL a/c subwoofer. I have the y splitter going from the computer into the R/F amp, then have the rca’s going through the pass through into the powered sub. I then have the rca’s going into the 400w amp to power the speakers.

I have not built proper boxes for the 6x9’s, I wanted to see if it would work before putting in too much time.

Yes, this is a very unconventional setup, but it gives me what I want within my budget.

It seems the PSW has a built in amp. When I have the PSW on, the 6x9’s play at twice the volume as compared to not having it on. I have not had a chance to check wattage due to the lack of a test tone. (I will work on that soon)

Yes, I know my components ****, but since it is a work van, I didn’t want to put a real system in. It’s bad enough having all of the tools as a temptation, much less $1800.00 worth of audio equipment.

Comments/flames are welcome.

And if there is anybody in Greensboro, NC for the next 3 hours (3:30 EST), I would like an honest opinion on the sound.

Thanks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Ummm... AS long as you are happy with it.
Not really happy with it, but it works. If I had a regular automobile, it would be different.

Can anyone access the video? I don't seem to be able to, but I'm in the van on the internet, so that might be the problem for me.

What kind of job do you have? DC Sniper???
I own a retail maintenance company, and I need the ability to send pictures to corporate headquarters for work verification, so I use data cards supplied by cell phone companies to get about 140k speeds where ever I am.

i suppose thats cool man, if you like it then great, but if i may, i would make some suggestions.

having 6x9's facing down at the floor with the rear exposed to the same cabin that the front is - will A cause extreme cancelation because the back waves and front waves of the speaker will collide and neutralize eachother. and B have you ever watched TV or went to a concert and turned around while you listend? having speakers behind you is about the same idea //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

as far as your substage is concerned, having mismatched subs will do the same thing. since they dont have the same excursion\sensitivity\motor strength\ect - they will not be able to play "bass frequencies" at the same SPL and speed, so the difference in the subwoofers will cause cancelation as well.

so you might want to look at getting a pair of those 6x9's up front somewhere, and getting a matching RF sub on ebay. those look like P1's - you can get those for pretty cheap.

depending on what amp you have im sure you might be able to get somthing a little better and build a cool box for it where that shelf stops. but its a nice start man. you have been bitten by the car audio bug, and being on this site will force you to upgrade //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Nice. Hey at least you have some tunes now.
Yeah, no sh**. At one point I was using $5.00 PC speakers, and that really sucked. This set up really turns heads. I figure the speakers are pushing about 150w rms, but will check the watt output soon.

150w rms is turning heads? :p
k, I went to 2 different independent car audio places, and was told by one "That is wicked loud" and he suggested getting rid of one of the 6x9's and putting some 5 1/4 up front, getting a 15" sub.

The second told me (Tweeter installer) that it was the loudest system he had ever heard without distorting. So I'm still looking for a decibel meter to see how loud it really is.
