Up in the air about which ride to get?

Man, the Durango is a great vehicle.
I had one for 2 years, (sold it when gas was 4.30 a gallon)

Never had any problems with it, nice exhaust tone, roomy. was a great all around vehicle.
Ive had an 04 Dakota for 5 years. The engine and tranny are rock solid but the front suspension and brakes were SEVERELY underengineered for the truck. I lost interest in replacing it with another Dodge when a Chrysler exec was quoted in the media as saying they don't think bad balljoints and wheels falling off trucks rises to the level of a safety defect that merits a recall because so far it only happened at parking lot speeds. I believe they also said it's the customer's fault for not recognizing the symptoms and getting them diagnosed and repaired before it got to that point. One guy had it happen on his Dakota at low mileage but out of warranty, Daimler Chrysler offered to do all body and suspension repairs free of charge anyway if he promised not to go to the media. He declined, paid for the body and suspension repairs himself, then went straight to Dateline. My passenger's side joints were gone to the point of the truck being unsafe to drive at 60,000 miles. Turns out they had switched suppliers and were using a cheaper version of the part made of weak materials to save a few bucks, probably so they could pay heath benefits and wage continuation to the UAW employees.

These vehicles are very cool and fun if you're the type who trades every two years, stick with it for 5-10 years and 75-100000 miles and see how it works out. Meanwhile my girlfriend gets a recall notice for every single tiny little thing that might possibly ever go wrong on her RSX before she has to read about it in a newspaper or see it on the news.

The domestics have to be sued and embarassed publicly for years before they fix severe safety defects. They don't engineer cars, they engineer profit margins. They have to cut corners on the vehicles to keep their unions fat and happy. The import builders invest their money in the vehicles. They build more durable vehicles and even then are more ready to step up and make it right when they see a pattern that indicates something is still wrong, even small non-safety related items.

On the Odyssey, I would go 2005 and up. I researched mini-vans thoroughly. At first I thought the Toyota Sienna was for me. Then I went to the Santa Clara Auto show and got in them side by side. Honda Odyssey won hands down. Even the 2007+ Nissan Quest seemed better than the Sienna side by side. Sienna just seemed cramped and laid out wrong.

Yeah, I guess I will have to head down to the local honda dealership and check them out. Only way to really know anyway.

Just wanted some opionions.

The Quest is kinda ugly from some angles IMO. But it does have this cool option:

I would say go with a minivan to help with the mileage and should you have another you will be good to go!

An SUV would be nice but who knows that we won't be paying $4 gal again by this time next year.

Another to look at if you do go the SUV route is the newer Grands Cherokees I have seen the newer bodystyle with low miles from 10-13k and it's a pretty nice looking ride,

Gonna run the Oddessy or Quest pass the wife and see what she thinks. Seems the most logical and I found a couple Quests for 10g's with 30k on them locally. I have to trade my Focus on it and last year was getting 10k to trade on it, but owed like 12k. I am down to 8k on it now, so hoping they pay it off and could maybe get in a lower payment than what I was paying.

That is what I hope for.

Dont show the wife this

If your talking about a third row and actually using it. Nothing will beat the third row room of a van and the access of sliding side doors.
No doubt about that. I have to sacarfice something. I just hate the exterior of a van and the mini van name. I feel like my manhood is being take away from me. So trying to keep that and look decent and I think the Journey looks pretty nice.

But you are right, for ease of getting in and out, I am sure a van will win hands down. Hummmmmmmmm.

If your getting a van get the Odyssey, If your getting an Odyssey find one with the IL-4.

They put V-6's in minivans for the people than have 200+ LB kids and tow a camper with them, but your mechanic will show you the down side to V-6 minivans when it comes time to give you your first bill.
