Unplugged sub, now sub + door speakers don't work

Boomin_Tahoe is usually quite helpful for everyone he runs into on here, something just must have rubbed him wrong which can easily happen in forums. You should have seen how heated the guys on recording.org got when i asked a few questions about how to drop frequencies of audio on prerecorded music so it would bang harder in my car. They got completely unhinged at the mention of the purpose of why i wanted to do it, but were fine answering some questions before that info came to light. Im betting you two just got off on the wrong foot. Hes actually pretty cool
Anyways, it can only be a couple things really. Looks like you have a 5 channel amp, so i assume that you were running the door speakers off the 4 channels and the sub off the one. So, on the amp there is a red triangular light that glows when its on, is yours on when the radio turns on?
Maybe he woke up without his morning cup of joe, IDK. I was up all **** night (insomnia is great) so who knows.

Yes you are correct. The red light is ON when the radio is on. 4 channel + the amp. I just opened the head unit and all was good. Next thing I might do is pop door speakers, though IDK if that will do anything. This is seriously an odd problem.

i wouldnt do that first. Get any speaker thats over 4 ohms (i.e. even a house speaker) and connect it to the +- of one channel of the amp. If it works, repeat the test on all 4 channels. If if doesnt, try to plug an alternate source into the rca ins on the amp and repeat the test

Would one of my guitar speakers work for this test? Ex. 8ohm Celestion (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GMNG620/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 or I'm assuming you mean something with RCA leads? I don't have anything that would plug directly into the amp like that, though I'm a bit confused from your post with what you want me to do (sorry). Everything I have in the house is speaker wire =/.

I'm trying to go with the KISS method (keep it simple stupid), since all I did was unplug the amp, literally, but I've checked nearly everything. IDK if somehow the wires touched from the sub and severely fucked things up in the amp (what does the red light mean? I can't find any info in the manual on it), is that even a possibility? Like I said the dash speakers worked... can I perhaps swap the RCA's from the dash speakers to the door speakers and see if that makes a difference? IDK if that would do anything with the wiring though (newb at this).

Thanks for your help.

What does the red light on the amp mean?
red light on the amp is power. Kenwood has been using a red glowing triangle to represent power for decades.

Yes, guitar speakers would work fine.

Get some speaker wire hooked up to your test speaker and then connect it to one channels + and - connections of the amps output. Turn your key in your car to turn the radio and amp on. Does the speaker work?

Did you put a meter on the 12v, ground, and remote connections on the amp? Do that and see what you meter. Also meter the amp side of the fuse under the hood by the battery, make sure your getting full 12+ volts through it

So test speaker > speaker wire > shove directly into empy RCA inputs on the amp?

(Thanks for help everyone, I got a DR appt and will be back later).

the thing you need to know about RCA connections vs speaker output connections is that they are completely different things. RCA connections carry low level electricity from things like head units to amplifiers, then amplifiers use high level output (the + and - speaker wire connections) to go to speakers. In an earlier post i think i remember you saying that you have rca connections going to the speakers which just doesnt make any sense

no. do you not have anything connected to the RCA inputs on the amp currently?

Well all I can see on the front of the amp is the 4x RCA inputs and the subwoofer speaker wire. I'm assuming the RCA inputs on the amp go directly to the speakers and are hooked up to those via speaker wire. So you're saying go from the RCA wires FROM the amp and hook THOSE up (take the speaker wire off one of the car speakers) and hook it up to the guitar speaker and see if sound comes out? **** I'll go take another look.

Bolded stuff is dumb, I understand now.

**** ok I'm an idiot I see what you mean. There is RCA going in obviously and speaker wire coming out. Do I have to go to the indoor car speakers and hook up the guitar speaker to those ends (coming from the amp) to test them in that manner which I'm assuming would either a) isolate the speaker in question or b) isolate the amp input being fucked?

Remote connections? Do you have an example of what the amp side of the fuse under the hood might look like? I checked near the battery and didn't see anything to test.

Wish I would have installed all this **** myself so I knew more about what I was doing, ugh. Just didn't have the time back then.

I just start with getting the RCA’s correctly connected from the head unit to the amp and see what happens first

Yeah they're connected properly. I'm guessing the easiest test would be to plug the guitar speaker into the sub speaker wire in the trunk and see if it plays?

still no sound? yes. go to the trunk, unscrew one channel of the speaker wires coming out of the amp and connect your test speaker

You should have a fuse on the power wire coming from the amp, going to the battery. Should be within 2ft or so of the battery.

On the amp, you should have 3 connections separate from the speaker connections. That's your 12v+, ground, and remote. They are labeled on the amp. Put a meter on them and see what they read, ground to 12v+ and ground to remote.

Will do after DR appt , thanks all. Got some stuff to do when I get home.
