your reply answers everything i was trying to ask here...More power handling = more copper, which = more moving mass, which = lower efficiency. Most lower powered subs will be more efficient than the normal "monster sub." So they'll normally be louder up to a certain point where they reach mechanical/thermal issues, and then the beastly subs start to take over in SPL since they can handle the added power.
Unless you soon plan on upgrading to more power, just get the sub thats rated the same as your amp. Otherwise you'll be wasting the other sub's potential, and (more than likely) won't be getting as loud at the same time.
