Underpowering a sub

I have had no problem with either company. I have ordered from both.
As far as the system goes I would say stick with your type x comps & coaxial, type r sub, and that viper amp( http://cgi.ebay.com/Viper-1100-5-5-CH-Stereo-Amplifier-with-Remote-ONLY-170_W0QQitemZ5809140039QQcategoryZ4950QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem )

would be perfect for your setup it might be worth getting it refurbed.

What is so great about that Viper? The specs don't look all that different from the Alpine. What am I missing?

like i said earlier

-Rated Power @ 1 ohm: 600 x 1 (sub)

and

-Rated Power @ 4 ohm: 75 x 4 (ch1-4)

the sub channel has 600 watts on the viper, the alpine had 200 watts

the sub channel on the viper is 1 ohm stable, that means you could wire a 2ohm DVC sub down to 1ohm and get the full 600 watts

and besides, the other 4 channels are more powerful also, that would be good if you get the type x comps because they are 75rms.

And even if you disregard the fact that it is a much better amp for your application, it is less than half the price of the alpine, and i would say every bit as good, hopefully you can get some second opinions on that though.
