under powering my sub?

i have an audiobahn ALUM12Q and its RMS is a 1000 and i have an audiobahn a8000t mono amp http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=13490

i was planning to run it at 2ohms, 400 rms since the amp said 400 rms and 800 max. is that too little power? or is it ok? help wat to run it at!

It will be fine. Your enclosure will determine how much the sub actually see's anyway. Port it.

underpowering with clean power can't hurt a sub...although clipping an "underpowered" signal will.

if go to the site and look at the bottom of the description it says

4 ohms mono: 400w x 1

2 ohms mono: 800w x 1

is that the rms rating or the peak? i culd run it at 2ohm 800w?

Pretty sure that's the RMS output of the amp.

You want to give your sub the RMS, giving it peak all the time will probably end up hurting it. Underpowering CANNOT hurt subs, else everyone would have to play their subs at full volume all the time //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

sounddomain says 800 RMS @ 2 ohms. So it probably is.

i am a noob but, AFAIK,

if your sub is 2ohm, the amp is supplying 800w RMS.

if the sub is 4ohm, the amp is supplying 400w RMS.

depend on your sub spec and wiring.
