Type X or Boston z6? *read first*

Okay, so I went into a local car audio shop asking to hear some type X's, I liked them a lot, especially over the JL xr's, but he also showed me some Boston Z's, he told me that they're not going to sell Boston's anymore so he offered them to me at 'almost cost'.

I can get the type x's for under $200 shipped online, or I could get the Z's for 550 from them.

I'm worried I won't have enough power for the Z's though(eD nine.2).

These will be going into q-logic kickpanels.

I planned on spending around $200, but for that price should I save for another few paychecks?

It sounds like the general concensus is that you would need more than double that in order to utilize the potential of the Z's. Remember they are 3 ohms, so your going to get ~33% more power to them then you would at 4 ohms. This in relative terms of course because no amp is 100% efficient. But you still have the means to compare specs and make an educated decision.

How would you describe the sound of the Alpine Type X's? I have been looking at them, but unfortunately am unable to listen to them before I make my purchase...I have heard that they are dull and lack vibrance....Thanks

Don't believe anything you've heard untill you can verify it with your own ears!!!!!! This is a public opinion board filled with anecdote and rumor...when's the last thread you've read were someone was looking for or was given a scientific explantion for anything??

I've listen to both sets you mentioned regularly in some friends cars. I dont think the type x's are dull and lack vibrance. I really liked the type x tweeter very smooth ( referring to spx177r and not the spx177a) and laidback.

the xover on the type x is a really good one and requires a good bit of knowledge to set it up right. not setting the xover properly for the install could lead to lack of vibrance and dull that some others have mentioned.

I believe the z6 is on another level compared to the type x. Not saying the type x is an inferior product because it isnt. There is a reason why boston created these over their boston pro set. which in itself is another really nice component set.

The Type X's got very loud, very clear, were bright(but not overly bright) when they needed to be, and had very decent midbass. I would seriously reccomend them. The JL XR's sounded too bright and as if they had reverb. They just gave off sort of a hollow, in-a-cave type sound.

Ok, seriously, I want to know were you can get the x's for under 200 shipped and for them to be in stock? LMK cause I am currently on back order at IKEsound.com and that is the lowest price I could find.
