How is what for SQ? All you have posted is a model lineup, presumably Alpine. What are you looking at in particular?

Overrated? You must be thinking of the type R's. I never heard of the S's being overrated before. Also they last if you dont over power them. So sounds like user error to me.

The type-S subs do sound pretty decent, and they are pretty durable. One of my co-workers has two of the 12's each getting 600rms and they've held up just fine for a year.

The Type-S does NOT have that great of SQ. Dont expect them to get too low in a sealed box.
