well saidThey have no special cooling. The former isn't drilled for that. The have a 2" voice coil. If you think you're giving them a lot more than 500 watts for any amount of time you're mistaken. Clamp it and find out how much you're really giving them. They sound terrible but they can, just like any other sub... get loud. They are nothing special EXCEPT for their spider. They have 2 spiders spaced around 1/2 apart to give better linearity through the stroke.
I actually have one. Obviously you never clamped the power.I ran 1700w-1800w to two type-r's. They can definitely take more than 500w rms. Obviously you never owned one.
TommyK has put well over 500rms on a 10" Type R and has the scores to prove it. From my understanding with all his testing with R's he has only blown one and that was on 2kRMS from a Kicker 2500.1 for a 30 second run. Snapped in the last couple of seconds. They have no special cooling. The former isn't drilled for that. They have a 2" voice coil. they are good subs till about 700 each of real powerI ran 1700w-1800w to two type-r's. They can definitely take more than 500w rms. Obviously you never owned one. I'm not saying theyre gonna hold up to a test tone for an hour but for daily its perfectly fine.
Most subs can take a lot of power over rated for short durations. Since the type r has a smaller coil and no special cooling I guess it has magic? I mean you all say it can take all this power but I don't think any of you have ever actually clamped the power. Like most people on this forum, you just think you know what you're talking about.TommyK has put well over 500rms on a 10" Type R and has the scores to prove it. 1 ohm load rising to what? Impedence rise isn't negligible as far as power output goes. It's stupid to try to estimate what power as the impedence changes with frequency. You got confused on why. I am positive you did not run 1700+ watts to a single type r for a few minutes. I ran one on 500 clean watts for a few seconds and it blew.Impedance rise is negligible on music, whats the point of clamping? Ran a 50hz test tone for a few minutes with voltage at 42 on 1 ohm load. What more do you want?
