Type R's arent enough

No doubt. Those babies pound! You have to give them lots of power though. I have one 12' and I am giving it 600 rms. Its nice and loud. Seems to me they are right when they tell you if you have two 12's your going to need 1200-1500 rms. They can take more.

 
not only that, but he was probably running some crappy box...

give each sub 2 to 2.5 cubes each with 1000 rms and i bet you wouldn't be saying "type r's aren't enough"
